Hi everyone,
I am currently creating a large ocean scene and it all works so far really well.
One thing which is not working and was addressed in another topic I found in the forum is, that the Z Density Falloff in the “Ocean Foam” node is reducing the particles closer to the camera and not the particles further away.
In the other topic it was solved by going into the “Ocean Foam” node and adding a “Clean” node after the “clip_at_near” node. I did it, but unfortunately it doesn't work in my case. I am very new to Houdini, so is there anything else, I have to do or do you have any idea, what else I could do?
It would be great, if someone could help me. This is the link to the other topic, if anyone want to read through it.

Thanks a lot for your help

Hey everyone,
I am currently trying to use geoemtry as a volume. I tried different things, but it is not wokring yet.
At the moment I am using a volume and then a volumevop with some noise in there. But the volume is always a box, but I would like to have a different shape. I know that I can use a “vdb from polygons” node, but this one doesn't seem to work with the volumevop node.
Could anyone give me a hint into the right direction? That would be very helpfull.
Have a nice day

Hey,
thanks a lot, it is working now. It was the SVGIcons.cache file. But anyway, I also downloaded the daily build and now I am on the newest version.

Hey,
thanks a lot for your reply and your help. I just installed Houdini new but it didn't help. I am running the 16.0.504.20 version.
The icon is actually there and also showing, I just cannot use it. You know, I can click on it, but nothing happend.
I also notice, that if I am in the network view, the icons on the nodes are not always shown properly. Sometimes they are black boxes, then I zoom in and they are stating to flicker, showing the actual icon then again a black box, it is really strange.
I tried to find the ordner you were talking about above, but my houdini/16.0 file is completely empty.
Do you maybe have another idea?

Hi everyone,
I am using Houdini Indie and I am trying to open the Display Options, by clicking on the eye icon or pressing the short cut D. But I am alsways getting an error message:
“The attempted operation failed. Icon with name ”NETVIEW_hda_unlocked_badge" does not exist.
Has anyone an idea how to solve this or if there is any other way to open it?
Thanks a lot for your help and have a nice evening

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » Rendering on more than one computer

Hi eveyone,
I have the Houdini Indie version and I have some questions regarding rendering one more than one computer and I really hope, that someone can answer me a few questions about it. I have been only rendering about a couple of computers using vray but it seems to be different with Houdini. At least that's what I have read.
So lets assume I have two more computers, which I would like to use for network rendering a smoke simulation.
1.) My work computer is going to be my HQueue server, isn't it?
2.) On my other two computers I have to install the Houdini Engine Licenses, haven't I? As far as I am right informed, I can get up to 3 Engine Licenses. These will only help with calculating the smoke cache and not help with the rendering, won't they? Or are they still needed to support the smoke simulation during rendering, even if it is cached?
3.) I read somewhere, that for the actual rendering on the other two computers, I have to install the Mantra Node. Is this right and if yes, how can I install them? There are not in the Houdini installation packet or am I missing something?
It would be great, if someone could help me with this. I read already a couple of other threads but it is still a little bit confusing.

yeah, I thought that is the easiest way, as I get it as a Houdini asset into C4D and can see right from the beginning how it looks and if I don't like something about it, I change it in Houdini and it is automatically updated in C4D.
Thanks for your help with the locked asset

Hey,
I selected all the SOPs, clicked on the subnet button and then made a right click on the Subnet SOP and choose “create digital asset” and that's it. There is actually another thing I was wondering about, as soon as I clicked on the “create digital asset” a small lock appears next to the subnet SOP and I cannot create another asset from the subnet SOP. Is this the normal way? Because what is, if I would like to change some parameters inside my SOPs in the subnet SOP and create a second digital asset? So far it didn't let me do it.

Hey,
thanks a lot for your quick answer. The volume trail SOP only gives me these “colorful” lines which C4D isn't reading in. I attached the Fit SOP to it and I got some lovely NURBS/beziers, but C4D doesn't like them as well, which is a little bit strange. So I guess I am still doing something wrong and need to have a deeper look at it, as there wasn't any problem with the polywire SOP.

Hi everyone,
that's the first time I am writing here so hello at first
I just started out with Houdini and so far, it is amazing, but I am also a little bit overwhelmed with all the possibilities. I have been using other 3D programs for a couple of years, so some parts are kind of familiar and some not.
So here is my question and I hope that someone can help me with it. I created some lines with a volumetrail node. As I would like to get them as asset into cinema 4d, I need them as polygons or preferable as curves. So far I managed to get them into polygons by attaching a polywire node But I am not managing to convert them into curves. Is this actually possible and if yes, which node should I use? I have been trying some different nodes but it didn't seem to work.
Have a nice evening
