Sorry that I do not know the answer to your question.
I've been asking myself the same thing…
How to make the flames appear in another fashion.
“Simple” things like controlling the height, color, etc. of the flames.
No old pro that can hint at something?

I recognize that error too, I used to get it.
I had to muck around with versions, trying different ones until I got one that worked for me.
I don't know what the actual problem was though, and I think you're running the same version that works for me..

Allright, so I screwed something up somewhere. Hmm…
I'm not that advanced with the engine, but I didn't get it yesterday
I'll crack open that example and see what they've done that I havent.

Here's the .hipnc file and the textures.
Like I said, nothing fancy about it, just a quick testmodel.

Hi DrFrankenRex,
The animation does not show up in ShowTool Pro.
Which is why I was asking about animating the texture and exporting it using the Torque render node, if that works or not.
I named the animation ambient, which should make it play on load.
Start frame is 1, end frame is set to 48 (It's just a small cyclic animation)
Fps is 30, override is -1, and priority is set to 5.
It's also set on Cyclic, Enable Morph, Enable TVert, Enable Visibility, and enable transform.
No triggers.
The Export DTS is set, and it's set to export animations, and to copy textures to the destination folder.
I am perfectly aware of how to import my work into the TGE engine etc.
I'm just trying to figure out if the Houdini Torque exporter supports animated UV's, or if I'm going to have to come up with something else.

A quick question for those who know what they're doing.. err..
Can Houdini export animated textures with the Torque render node?
I'm making a magic staff for practice, and I have a little crystal on top of it, which I'm trying to animate the texture of.
The textures export just fine, I have no errors in the dump.html, the texture is animated in Houdini.
I'm animating the UVTexture Angle to give it a bit of a swirly effect, so nothing fancy.
Any ideas why it's not working? The exporter can't handle it? Or am I missing something simple here..

Log into your account on the GG site, then go to “My Account”, there is a list of the products you've bought through GG.
On that list you should have “Houdini Apprentice HD” and to the right of that, click on Download.
That takes you to a new page, click on “Houdini Apprentice HD” again on that page.
That takes you to a site here at SideFX, on the left, pick your OS and click on “Download” at the bottom.
That makes sure you have the right version (Apprentice HD without watermarks etc.)
Now, install it, and install the license server as well. Online or offline.
(I ended up using offline because of a dodgy internet connection at the time)
Once done, insert you license keys and you're all set.

edward is right, it has to be HD license.
I'm working on some tutorials for working with the Torque render-node btw.
Once I have some up and public I can drop a thread in this forum about it.
Hope you get it up and running!
Houdini is great, takes some learning but it's awesome and together with the Torque render-node it's the best solution I've heard of and worked with, when it comes to TGE game graphics.

Hi dpitts21,
Make sure you're running the right version of Houdini.
I had the same problem, had to reinstall and go through the setup of the licenses again (And choose the right option when installing) before I got it working right.

I'm having problems with the Convert function.
I'm using Houdini with TGE for modelling, so everything has to be in triangles.
And I've run into a problem.
I tried something mentioned in the DTS node info, namely using a Convert in order to, well, convert my modell into triangles.
But it doesn't work, it seems to convert only some parts of the modell.
I've set it to “From Type: All” and “Convert To: Polygon” as well as Connectivity: Triangles
From what I understand, that should do it.. but it doesn't.
I just started with a box, Polygon Mesh and Triangles and went from there, and in the end needed the converter.
It's not a real model, it's a test thing.

I'll post a scene later on, right now I'm tied up with a rendering.
I tried the scene you posted, rendered into mplay, and could switch between the normal image and the Pz one.
I could save the normal one of course, just Save Frame.
But when I tried with the Pz one, I got an all black image.
(I tried setting it to save the image using the Pz in that save-menu as well)
As you probably can tell, I'm not very used to Houdini and maybe this is a very simple thing to fix, I just don't know how
Sorry for all the questions, but thank you so much for answering

Any ideas rdg, on what I'm doing wrong or how I can save the Pz image to disk?.
Right now like I said, all I'm getting is an all black image, nothing like the one I see in the preview.
(I've also tried setting the channels to Pz for export, and thus ending up with the all black image)

I guess I can do that.
Next stupid question; When rendering to mplay, I can see the Px layer, but when I try to save that as a separate image all I get is a black image. Not the same as I see in the preview. Ideas?

Thank you so much!
The only thing I'm trying to figure out is how to invert the range (So that bright=closest)
-edit-
I just tried setting the gain to -1, which seems to work except that that turns the background all white, any ideas on how to set it up so that what's furthest away is black, and closest is white. (Without what I just tried)

I might be incredibly stupid, but I'll ask nevertheless..
I work with 3D displays, and one of the things needed is a z-depth image (Of the exact same scene as I'm rendering with materials)
And I'm wondering how to go about that..
No shadows, just a gradient across the scene relative to the camera that uses a grey color to specify depth.
The reason is that the 3D displays need the depth information to be able to give the proper output.
(And yes, it's for personal projects. Nothing beats seeing your own work in fullblown 3D on an actual 3D display!)

Yes, at the moment this is for private projects.
But it's also sort of, preparing for the future. I might be getting some gigs as an animator/modeller/visual effects, and then I'm getting the proper commercial licenses (As of now, I'm not doing any work commercially, of course.)
Well, I guess I'll have to dig through some Wiki's, unless someone who's done this before with one HD apprentice license per machine can help me out with directions.
Thanks for all the replies

I just had another look at the FAQ, and it states that I can make a renderfarm by purchasing more Apprentice HD versions. (One per box).
New question, can someone point me to a place with instructions on how to set that up in a network?
I'm assuming the way to go about it differs from how one would normally do it.

Yeah, I knew that, but are there other limitations other then the tokens that would stop me from doing it?
