You can find the Shader in the SHOP Net.
If it is the Pyro Shader, which it should be default, it may be called “fireball”
In the Utils Tab There you can apply transfers from Visualization to Pyro.

I did take a look as well.
Chnage your ShadowType from RayTraced to Maps.
This will hugely affect your rendering times.
This wont work on the Enviroment Map, Turn Shadows of here.
Also if possible try to work with Pointlights - not Enviroment Lights.
You can get the blurry shadows in the Shadow Maps aswell.
This will help decreasing Rendertimes and allowing for more samples for less noisy renders.

Hey,
just to make sure:
Did you turn of smke emitting during simulation, because that wont work…
If you did simulate with smoke on:
Which Shader are you using?
On the Pyro2 there is a match Viewport Button in on of the later tabs.
Otherwise, please add a file.

Hey man,
A lot of questions here, but…
What you render in which order is pretty much dependent on what your actual Scene looks like. So you can't really apply any rules here.
You can render everything out in on go but add special passes that will aid your compositing. So to stay by your example it can be useful to add Object/Buffers for your Characters, so you can color Correct them seperatly.
But if your Camera is not moving it can sometimes make sense to render the BG seperatly, as you only need one Frame.
This all really comes down to the actual scene.
If you are just starting out, After Effects is fine! Especially if you know your way around already.
Simple Compositing can perfectly done here!
Nuke is in fact a more advanced option. But genereally you will render all your stuff in Houdini, Maya, etc and then Comp in Nuke/AE.
Sometimes it can for simple stuff just be faster to add some Particles with sprites in Nuke and not going back to your 3D Package.
But try looking for example at the beginner Tutorials by the Foundry or SideFX and start slowly. They will get you the understanding you need. Just because there are features like DeepCompositing they are not really the place to start.
But of course feel free to keep asking!

Houdini Learning Materials » Renderman 19 Support?

Renderman has native Support in the Full Version of Houdini.
Neither the Apprentice nor the Indie Version has nor will get external Renderer Support anytime soon. At least I would not expect that.

Select the faces you want the new material to appear on and create a group out of those in the viewport.
Now add an MaterialSOP, select the group and assign the new Material.
But as this question is pretty basic, maybe consider watching the “First Steps” Tutorial sessions on the sideFX website/
Also this should topic is most likely more suited in “Houdini Apprentice” or “Learning houdini”.

Hey everyone.
I am working through the Wrangle Workshop.
Ari uses the Shell command “vcc -X sop” to call all possible functions.
My Shell returns this:
Henriks-MacBook-Pro:~ henrikgieselmann$ vcc -X sop
-bash: vcc: command not found
Any Ideas what I am doing wrong?
Thanks so much in Advance!!
Greetings!
Henrik

Hey daggo!
Welcome aboard.
I am at more or less you staring point. But one year ahead of you if you will…
I can't answer all questions, but I will do my best to cover most of it.
To be confident - like really confident - I am not sure. I am not there yet. Confident of knowing where stuff is, and what other people on the forums are talking about. Maybe about 6 month to 1 year. Depending on the amount of time you spent on it.
Math is cool if you know some stuff. It helps a lot.
Kahnacademy can help you out in that area. But I think these days you can get quite a lot out of Houdini without a diploma.
Matchmove - ask someone else.
Compared to Cinema 4D:
Modeling is slower and sometimes a pain in the ass. Cinema is quite well good in that area right now. Yet not at all procedural.
Rendering is just fine. Depending on your style of work maybe slower yet a lot more adjustable.
Animation is better in Houdini imho. But that is just personal preference.
Mograph - It is not as easy as in Cinema, but it works nicely and you get a ton of extra options with the advanced Dynamics and stuff.
Font tool isn't that cool though.
Export You can export/import just fine. So you really can just take your models from Cinema and bring them into Houdini if you keep working with both softwares. Export should work fine too.
BUT while alot of this does not sound all to good, you will learn to understand the advantages of Houdini over time. If you dived into XPresso in C4D a little and enjoyed it. Houdini will not disappoint you.
So that are my experiences on that. Maybe someone can add more info on that.

Just set it up as an Rigid Body or Static Object.
You should be able to use the Shelf tools For that.
That should do the trick.
Another option would be to Source it as an Collision Volume I think.
I had the feeling the other day that this is faster solving. But thats more of a feeling than any reliable info…

I'm looking quite closely at viewport interaction in Houdini and how we can make it awesome. Any and all suggestions are welcome.
Now that sounds awesome!

Hey Everyone!
I have a weired problem. As being from Germany my Macbook uses a QWERTZ Layout. No for most of the time everything is fine.
But some inputs are just not recognised by Houdini.
These include the “@” sign and the “`”.
Now my workaround until now is switching to Chrome Typing Symbol, copying it and pasting that into Houdini. It works yet it makes using the WrangleSOPs and stamp functions really annoying…
Is there anything I can do about that?
I am on OSX 10.9.2 with Houdini with 13.0.288 by the way.
Thanks so much in advance!

Hey guys!
Most likely super simple question here…
I want to have more Frames added at the beginng of my Sequence.
How can I shift everything further or how can I add Keyframes at the front.
If I try to jus use negative Frames Houdini renders my Flipbooks as Black…
Thanks very much!
