Houdini Engine for Unreal » Texture sheet node not working
- ctedin

I've been getting issues as well. The render node spits out the texture sheets, but when it gets to the “_rgb” versions, it will skip frames randomly and gives me errors when it tries to create the mosaic. I've downloaded the most recent versions of the game tools and followed your instructions above, but this seems like a bug. It gets through the “checkpoint” process, by the way, then deletes the final exr file.

Great! I'm looking forward to testing it out. Been keen to put together a rigging demo for a dragon, and I'd love to use the autorig, as well as show the other rigging tools, CHOPS, etc.

Yes, I'd love to have one myself. I know it's very “C++”-like. I've been using that language for a while, but would prefer something more specific to VEX.

Any ideas on this? I'm doing my hands and feet manually now. Hoping they will work with the rig properly. I prefer to do these a little different anyway.

I'm not sure exactly. I believe that I tried it on 16.0.6xx some version in that series. However, I did totally recreate it in this very latest version (.736) with the same results. I rebuilt the preference folder prior to starting again, so there shouldn't have been any connection with the prior version.
Thanks for looking into this. I've been in class today all day long, so I haven't been able to check the forum.

Does anyone else get these errors? I make a “auto rig”, and move all the guide “bones” around in the proper location. I save out the “Extra JSON” file as well, that contains the rig definitions. I even export the JSON file too. I save the .hip file, so I can come back and adjust the rig once I bake out a test rig. All goes well, but if I open the old file, then do a File>Load From Existing Asset, I get some errors. When I bake out a new rig, it errors out around the ankles and gives me an error. I delete the whole “auto rig”, and generate a new one from the saved JSON file. I get this result:

All I can say is “you won't be disappointed!” The rigging tools are really really good. The boolean tools are amazing, and the interface improvements will make you not want to go back to H15. It's already becoming difficult for me to step back to H15, as great as it is. Once the tools are all in place, and rock solid, it will be one of the biggest releases of this magnificent software I've ever seen. If anyone is in Chicago, stop by the CHUG (Chicago Area User Group) next Wednesday the 15th at Tribeca Flashpoint College, 28 North Clark Street, suite 500 (across from the Picasso) for some Houdini 16 amaze. “See you next Wednesday”, as they say in the Blues Brothers. I'll try to show off some of the features, at least what I've been able to do with them, and we can all try out some fun.

We just had 4 visitors from The Mill swing by my simulations class here at Tribeca Flashpoint College. This class is rocking out. Doing everything from flip fluid, Pyro effects, advection, particles, and even a little VOPs. Some were talking about starting up a local user group. I know Rich from The Mill is all in. Anyone else in the Chicago area? Anyway, Houdini rocks!

Try caching out the rbd simulation, bring it back in as a bgeo file, make it a static mesh and add the fluid sum. Make sure to turn on deformable object.
Houdini Lounge » i dont know how to render to videos

Never, never, never, never render to video. 3DS Max allows you to do it, but it is such a terrible idea. If you crash halfway through the render, the whole file is corrupted. If you crash halfway through a JPEG or TIFF or EXR render, you start up again after you throw away the last file that was saved (almost always half done.) Go on your way without too much of a hiccup. Most render farms will restart after a crash and re-render last frame, and continue.
(I only suggest JPEG renders for quick previews. You should always render to 16 or 32 bit files. EXR files are preferred for compositing and color correction.)

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » How do I render to disc and MPlay at the same time?

The image viewer is a separate application. Save images to disk, then launch image viewer. You can do this while rendering. Load up the images that have been rendered and play them.

I wholeheartedly agree! Wow this is a huge improvement in so many ways! So much more fun and easy to get serious modeling done. Not to mention great Sims. Really like the glue network tab tweaks.

Thanks. I'll give it a test. I never found the point wrangle nodes to be too difficult myself. But I see the logic in the new setup.
