I seem to be having problems using Houdini 7.0.231 with my NISIS tablet.
I can only run Houdini for a few minutes before houdini decides to crash. This can only be resolved by removing the drivers for the tablet. The error window explains that wintab32.dll is the culprit.
I don't intend to use the tablet in houdini, but it would be nice to not have to uninstall the drivers every time I need to go into it.
Is anyone else havinig these issues, and have they found a work around?
Thankyou.

I am using Houdini for Architectural Visualisation. I can say that it's great for that side of the field, using procedural routines for stuff like windows etc is great. I have a library of fitting for each of my clients, when a new job comes in, I can quickly set up a model. The compositor makes it easy to create scenes with d-o-f, layering with photos of the real-world skies and foliage etc…
yes you can undo a screw with a knife but I'd stick to using acad or catia or whatever you use for CAD as they are the proper tools for the job, otherwise you will be making things harder trying to convert Houdini to a job it's not meant for.

I've been having a good look at this hip. Is there anyway that we could procedurely remove the inner cubes, purely to save on geometry. If a model gets much larger than a head, them you're looking at alot of geom!

I too came from architectural modeling in VIZ/MAX. I gave it a go in Houdini, trying window features, etc. (nothing too scarey ) All together I found that it was way too excessive for such work.
I did find that the modular aproach that houdini uses was very friendly towards those that would have a large geo lib. Handy if you are at the final production end of a job rather than a CAD monkey.
XSI is a great modeller but I never really use any other part of it now. an ideal would be to have the XSI modeller with the VEX, CHOPS and COPS of Houdini.
IMHO mantra is sh*te out of the box, and would be far more comfortable with m-ray as an intro to houdini. I'm sure that most of you were pretty unimpressed with the first test-render they did with mantra, but then were shocked to see how deep it is after all.

you know what? there's no mozilla directory in /opt/hfs6 I may have a go of reinstalling to see if I missed an option somewhere
@JColdrick - HaHa! No that's the IRIX version. The Houdini version is 6.0.something. I should be on 6.1 over the weekend, though.
I'm afraid I'm a csh user, so I won't be cut&pasting that code. I'm sure I can convert it easily enough. Scripts between Linux & IRIX are pretty portable. There's not a big deal of difference, after all they are both Unix after all.
I don't want to start a discussion about it, but you Linux guys should go have a go on IRIX. You may be surprised how similar it is. Not the most powerful macines in the world, but nice to get away from PC architecture dragging you down. How easy is it to get all the hardware talking to each other in Linux? I used it a few years ago and it was hell to install. Once it was up it was running well, but I had no chance of getting on the net. This was well before the days of Redhat, I'm sure It's much better now. My mother runs Redhat, guess I'll visit her and have a play on her PeeCee

Check their Best Before dates. They only last a month
PS Why do they have to be so long? surely more combinations than stars in the universe?!?
