Hi everybody,
I wonder if it is possible to dynamicly generate lights based for example on the number of points of an object, an then modify it interactively so if the number of points of the object decrease, the number of lights decrease too
thanks in advance 8)

Well, basically I would like to create a object loader SOP (mainly like the File SOP), with some informations like point deformation frame per frame, etc ..
Maybe should I look in the HDK
Anyway , thanks for the answer !

I'm using Houdini on a dual monitor setup, and it's working very well, which OS are you working on ? Windows or Linux ? Usually it works better on Linux because of twinview

just convert your image sequence to an avi, with or tools like virtual dub or so … Nobody wants to render a .avi directly from render

I'll try to test it, but can you just explain how you get raytrayced motion blured shadows in Houdini ? After that I'll use the Lightwave technique for hacking the area lights
thanks John !
thanks John !

Well, the purpose of this trick is to render blurred raytraced shadows (or shadow map one) very much faster than an area light for example . This illumination is also more diffuse as the light is moving .
I didn't know that you could render motion blurred RT shadows in Mantra, and I am knew to this renderer, so I assume that we can do spinning lights in Mantra, right ?
I was also wondering, maybe there is something to do with the Vex Builder shadows

Hi Everybody,
I'm looking for a way to reproduce the famous “spinning light trick” from Lightwave to Houdini, I don't know if mantra's motion blur is able to do it, so if anyone could point this out to me, it would be great .
Basically the spinning light trick consists to parent a light ( most of the time a spot) to a rotating null (frame 1 = 0°, frame 2 = 720 °, etc …) In that way if you turn on motion blur you'll get soft shadows, as the shadows are motion blurred The greater the distance is between the light and the null, softer will be the shadows .
I assume that Mantra's motion blur isn't working the same way than lightwave .
If anyone knows how to reproduce it ..
Thanks in advance !

Hi Everybody,
Is there a way to see fractionnal keyframes in Houdini ? I have something rotating very quickly, 360 ° in one frame, I'm looking for a way to see it's movement between , let's say for example , frame 1 and 2 . Like if I was sliding time between frame 1 and 2 .
Thanks in advance

How do I get the “bound” value (y for example) of a SOP, except than middle click on it? I want to link this bound value in a expression
Thanks in advance

it worked perfectly when I followed your steps.
I restarted Houdini and tried it on my model, and it also worked So it seems that I just needed to restart Houdini, that's quite strange anyway
Well .. thanks a lot !

Hi everybody,
I have got a little problem with the polyextrude SOP, basically I want to extrude an edge, so what I do , I select an edge (of a poly box for example) in the 3d view and then right click to complete, but nothing happens ! Any ideas ? I probably do something wrong, but I can get it work
thanks in advance
