Actually, there is nothing Orbolt-specific to uninstall. It's not a separate app or plug-in or anything. If you don't want to, don't use the features. If you find a bug, simply report it to support@orbolt.com so we can fix it.
That being said, we certainly hope that we'll get the right mix of assets and functionality to capture your imagination. Please check on us periodically and let us know how we're doing.

Hi guys,
I have just checked and am sorry to report that this is still an issue. We do consider this a high priority bug, and it is still active. Usually we manage to get fixes out with a week or two, but this one has eluded us.
If anybody can confirm for me that the error messages are unchanged with the latest built (12.1.8+) I'd really appreciate it.
Also, if anybody affected by this wants us to upload for them, do the initial set-up etc, I am happy to do so. Please contact support@orbolt.com and quote bug # 50681 in the title.
Send whatever you want, we'll contact you offline, and make arrangements to do the legwork for you.
Best regards,
Martin

Yes, you can add comments when you rate an asset.
As far as workload goes, we can write reviews or comments. We just figured that we should stay impartial. Although what I am hearing is that, while we are still building traffic, maybe a SESI review/comment is better than nothing?
Oh yeah, a quick note on approvals. Most times it's fairly fast and interesting, but occasionally, they can be tricky! Especially utility nodes that require some specific inputs.
So please have mercy on us and include a sample file, and tip on how to use it. In the end you customers will thank you too.
Cheers

Have you tried an asset out? If so what did you think of it? Was there just a little something that it needed to make it better? Maybe communicate this to the author in a PM.
Or philosophy here, is that the Orbolt Asset store is a resource for artists and regulated mostly by its community. We feel that it might be meddlesome if Side Effects rated your work. Sure, we make the tools, but you're the artists. It's your opinion that matters.
We think it's best for you the artists to rate each others work. What do you think?

RE Q#50969:
“The shelf tool for the HDA should appear in the Tab menu within a submenu defined in Context folder of in the shelf tool editor. So it does not seem correct that it shows up under ”Uninstalled assets“.
Actually, it looks like some asset store processing that is going on, since ”Uninstalled assets“ seem to indicate the installation/uninstallation of assets from the store.
When I create my own HDA foo, then go to the Tools > Context folder and type My Submenu in the Tab Submenu Path, it does appear in that submenu.”
I have noticed that user pusat has it working in his assets, perhaps he'd care to comment?

Dependencies should do much of what you refer to in the 1st post. Albeit there are caveats to work around.
I know that there are at least 3 or 4 of you working on suites.

I know that there are at least 3 or 4 of you working on suites.
From what I can surmise, the main issues are:
- 1.Having to upload dependencies first, wait for activation, then upload parents.
2.Having to upload multiple dependencies, supply icons, hip files etc (would rather upload en masse)
3.Display of numerous dependencies. Would prefer to (optionally) hide dependencies at the store.
4.Management of versions
5.Management of naming.
How would you prioritize the list above?
Is there anything big missing from this list.
…and can you tell me what the suite you're working on is about (what can I say, I'm curious).

Thanks for splitting the thread up and posting “Suites” separately.
As far as ‘minor“ versions go, you are correct in your belief that there is no way to make a ”minor" free version name on an asset. A version name change IS a new asset for all intents and purposes.
Simply put: A name change in the node type name is a new asset.
The only visible indication of free minor updates are what you see on the website and on the asset details window.
One of the guys here suggested that it might be possible to change the display name (the name displayed in the tab menu). I haven’t tried it though.

If Houdini is launching an external browser (other than it's default one) from C++, it uses xdg-open. This browser can be overridden by the HOUDINI_WEB_BROWSER_COMMAND environment variable. If Houdini launches an external browser from Python, it uses webrowser.open. This browser can be overridden with the BROWSER environment variable. Perhaps setting these variables will do the trick?
We'd like to have done the login entirely from within Houdini, but it's difficult because of OpenID logins. Even though the OpenID protocol can support clients other than web browser, Google purposely only implements a subset of the protocol to only allow logins from a browser (or from something that can impersonate a browser very very well).

Protected assets prohibit users from diving into the network.
The protected/open status of an asset is visible when you mouse over the download button. An open lock indicates that you can dive into the asset and see how it's made.

RE:contradictions between the store documentation and Houdini's, where it concerns versioning and namespaces.
Please remember that The Orbolt store is in Beta. A lot is changing on the fly in response to your input.
This can result in a lack of parity between the Orbolt Asset stores documentation and Houdini's. Sorry for the confusion, and thanks for enduring through our growing pains.
Namespace Prefix
The Orbolt store uses namespace prefixes to add the authors account name.
If you add a prefix to an asset, the store will replace it with your account name anyways.
Namespace suffixes are used to define upgrade versions. Those are meant for major changes to the asset that might potentially break compatibility. The store versions the minor changes and allows you to create a major revision. The major version of an asset will appear pretty much as a new asset. In fact it's not much different from renaming the asset.

- It will need to be purchased.
It will appear twice in the store.
If you want free version updates, do not add a version. The store will track free version updates, and display them at the store, and in the Details window when you click on the asset icon inside Houdini, in the Orbolt Asset browser window.
Yes, there is potential conflict if you manually override either the namespace prefix or suffix.
You could end up with an asset that is received by the store as a new asset, instead of an update.
Your version numbers could become erroneous.
Your versions could become doubled-up.
Any of these could break dependencies with your asset.

One is a bit faster than the other.
If you want to save some time, use the RMB>upload feature from within Houdini. This will…
- upload the asset to the store
get it's new name
and replace it in your working Houdini file.
It eliminates the step (If you only use the website UI ) of downloading the updated asset from the store, installing it into your scene, just to find out what it's new name is.
In either case, the asset needs to be approved before you will be able to upload the master asset with the dependencies already in place. Yep we're working on this one…

There are several places you could provide an icon, and there are different image formats, and syntax required to use them, depending on their use.
Store Preview icons
600x600 png image
This image, requested at upload time, is your assets store icon. Perhaps we should rename it to something like “asset preview image” to be clearer.
Help cards
Can display numerous formats for a variety of reasons.
Image display e.g. diagram or render
“Factory Installed” Houdini help icons
Your custom icons
Custom Node Icons
Appear on the node in the network view
Appear on the tab menu.

For the cutom icon in the help card, this is specified in…
Type Properties>Help
To embed images in the help card, the correct syntax is [ImagepdefObject/operator_type?image.png
Your asset's operator type is right in the Edit Operator Type Properties
* Alternately you can use opdef:. in an asset's help to refer to sections in the asset instead of filling in the full node name, e.g.
#largeicon: opdef:.?image.png
* you help card must begin with a title for icons to show up in the help file.
= title =
* Remember that browsers don't know how to display .pic files,
so you should use PNGs or JPEGs.
* When you store an image in a section in an asset, the section needs to
have an extension in its name (e.g. “icon.png” instead of “icon”) because
the help server needs it to tell the browser the MIME type of the file.
Note that the help card does not support .pic images
-use png or jpg
-icons must be square
For custom images embedded in the help card, this is specified in…
Type Properties>Help
e.g. [ImagepdefObject/operator_type?image.png
You might have to restart houdini to update, I think it caches all icons on
startup.
Opedef'd images must be embedded via the Extras tab.

Here's a tip from one of our users:
Nobody in this thread has made reference to .svg support. Personally I generally do my icon creation in Inkscape and like to keep them in vector format when I dump them in the otls. Happy Houdini and the help server have no issues with referencing the embedded .svg icons.

Q:
I had custom node icons working for
opdef:Object/militaryhelicopter?Helicopter_Icon48x48.png .
After I uploaded the otl file to the store, my icons broke! Wassap?
A:
The asset gets renamed at upload time and this breaks custom links.
In this case, the helicopter has been renamed from militaryhelicopter to SideFX::militaryhelicopter .
So embedded images need to be changed to reflect the new name:
namespace first then object type has to go with node type
opdefideFX::Object/militaryhelicopter?Helicopter_Icon48x48.png
….yes, we're looking into a fix for this. :^)
