LukePI love the fact that SideFX is a no BS, no hype company, they develop the best VFX, and arguably the best CFX DCC out there, and each year they make our jaw drop with their new release, and Houdini 20 sure doesn't disappoint in that regard!
Folks at SideFX are geniuses. I’ve never seen any software pack so many things into one release…

Linux Mint here, dead simple to use, and you can setup your interface pretty much the way you like, XnViewMP is a pretty decent image viewer, it has its own file manager that can generate thumbs of EXR and HDR files.

raincoleAkeytsu does look good, as I recall it is Windows/Mac only, being a Linux users I never tried it, let's hope that other tools like Cascadeur, which I use, will fare better!
Learning from Akeytsu doesn't sound like a bad idea. Akeytsu has fallen flop, but I think its design is good for animators. (I kinda feel it fell not because it's not good, but because there isn't a big market for animator-only tools)

My guess is that all of this will be explained in the Houdini 20 HIVE videos, they say they will be released when H20 goes gold, I haven't seen a release date yet, can't wait for H20 to be released! 😜

raincoleI agree, best to wait for the final release, there are already way too many speculative threads as it is!
I got it. People are excited about H20. But do we really need an individual thread of each "Does H20 support feature X" question?
Cause that would be a lot of threads.

In the late 90s, early 20s, I was working with a very cool DCC on my Amiga called Animation Master, it was a pretty advanced character animation tool for the time, and it had a very cool function for walk cycles called Stride Length that prevented feet from slipping when animating a walk cycle on a path, so I can't say if there will be an automated walk cycle function in H20, but something like Stride Length would be really cool and definitely a time saver for most animators IMHO!

Here are my final thoughts on the whole Blender conversation on this thread, I find it hilarious that some of the peoples who openly criticize Houdini in this forum, which is arguably the most cutting edge DCC at the moment, get so pissed off because I pointed out all the Blender limitations and the fact that it is arguably the least cutting edge DCC at the moment, since its tools are more than 15 years old, and the fact that all of this actually happened on the Houdini forum makes it even more hilarious, the Blender community is more akin to a cult than a community of artists IMHO!
I brought it up at work yesterday, and Blender got laughed at by pretty much everyone there, here in Montreal, Blender is seen for what it is, an archaic piece of software not suited for commercial production, have a good day everyone!

PaQ WaKHave you looked at Polymarvels for tutorials on direct modelling in Houdini?
I myself "have" to use Alexey Modeler for Hou to make poly modeling a bit easier, I'm pretty sure that guy would prefer the Blender Market, not because Hou sucks, but because it will help him to live from his work.

PaQ WaKYou are entitled to your opinion, of course, but that would not explain the proliferation of free Blender addons, and as I said, a plugin usually fills a need, like the 28$ plugin that adds more than a hundred FBX functionalities to Blender would not exist if Blender didn't lack more than a hundred FBX functionalities, there are more than 2000 addons that add functionalities to Blender on the Blender Market alone, these addons exists because those functionalities don't exist in Blender, if they did, those thousands of addons would not exist, don't you think? 🤔
I don't use Blender that much, and especially not for final scene assembly.
However I doubt the blender addons market success has anything to do with Blender "weakness", but mostly reflect the software popularity these days, and how viable it is for developers or coders from different level to make a bit of money from their work.
If you follow that logic Modo should be the perfect software, there are almost no addons for it !

coccosoidsAs far as I know these tools are only for Unity, since Unity bought Weta in 2021, here is the page for more information!
Whatever happened to that WETA announcement? I don't even do FX work but I remember I was excited because at the time we were seeing a lot of similar announcements. I probably am wrong, but I don't think a lot of them got the traction needed...

osongYour opinion, not mine!
this is a very poor taste comedy
i refuse to take part in this any longer
Again, everything I said about Blender is true, it cannot handle large scenes, it lacks a ton of functionalities, hence the ridiculous amount of plugins for it, the tools are ancient, and Blender never brought anything new to the 3D world, no innovations, not even once in over 20 years, all the BI does is try to catch up with other DCCs like Houdini, the only innovation in Blender is the Grease Pencil, and that's for 2D, not 3D!

And here is another quote of mine...
GCharb
We're talking about textures here, and those are usually assigned inside the shader nodes, not in a network, but you could use them in a network if you wanted, I just don't see the use, so my guess is that your original complaint is about not being able to drag and drop textures in the VEX builder, is that it, and the old Principled shader works just fine in XPU here!
