I'm just learning about volume sims and came across these two types of pyro solver (Pyro Solve and Pyro Solve Sparse).
What is the difference between them, and what are the benefits/disadvantages of using one over the other?

In a smoke sim, does Houdini require the value range for the density attribute to be between 0 and 1, or can this be higher than 1? I ask because in one tutorial these values are deliberately set within this range. I am not sure if this is because it must be kept withing this range to use in Houdini smoke sims or for another reason. i.e. can density value be higher than 1 or does Houdini expect a normalised 0-1 range? I have

Thanks for the clarification, Benyee. Really appreciated. I'll be running through it on the weekend.

Thank you for your time with this Benyee, I will study your file. Much appreciated. I might ask a question about the foreach loop part once I try to follow the setup as it is a bit hard fro me to follow.

if you want to create your own constraints with connect adjacent pieces, use the geometry output/assemble, the constraint output gives you constraints calculated by the boolean fracture node. you can rightclick -> allow editing of contents to dive into the boolean fracture node and inspect what's happening there. you can try using the generated constraints or make your own ones to have more control over number of constraints, placement etc.
Thanks for the explanation!

I am experimenting with the Boolean Fracture node and using it with a DOP Network. It has a Constraint Geometry (output2). Should I connect the Connect Adjacent Pieces node to this output rather than to the output of the Assemble node (as in other cases)? I get different results depending on how I make this connection.

Some data types like quaternions(xyzw) and color(rgba) are vector4. If your dimensions are less than 4 the extra values are unused.
Thanks!

In the Attribute Randomize node, If I randomize velocity (Attribute Name: v), the parameters show Dimensions: 3 and four fields for the Min/Max Value.
The first three of these field are presumably XYZ, but what is the fourth field for?

Here is a simple example to illustrate how to config bullet RBD constraints with RBD cluster node in SOP level
and use these constraints in DOP. Hope it helps.
Thank you for creating this helpful example.
I am unfamiliar with a couple of the nodes you used. Could you please run through what is happening in the For Each loop step by step?
Also, can you explain what the Connect Adjacent Pieces and the RBD Convert Constraints (both connected) are doing, precisely?
I had expected you to use the RBD Constraint Properties node to use the RBD Cluster node's intracluster and clustertocluster groups in its Constraint Group field, as I have see them used with the SOP level RBD Bullet Solver). Is this not possible for use in a DOP Network set up? Is this why you have instead created your own cluster groups?

I am able to incorporate the RBD Cluster node with the new RBD Bullet Solver node at SOP level, but is there a way to incorporate it when using a DOP Network node with a Rigid Body Solver?
If so, how do you connect it so that the clusters it creates are passed in to the DOP Network?

I am using Mantra (Houdini v18.5). It does not render a Material if I use a Duplicate node or a Copy to Points node and check "pack and instance".
I found the issue: In Mantra ROP you must set Rendering tab-Render tab-Declare Materials: Save All Materials and Shaders

I have fed some geometry with a Material (texture map) in to a Copy node and then checked Pack and instance.
This stops the material from being renderable. Is there a way to retain the packed state and still render the Material on the geometry?

Technical Discussion » Paste Relative Reference vs Paste Absolute Reference?

I'm still not sure I follow.
Is the difference simply that the Absolute Path is the full path from the top most level node, i.e. in the case you gave, from the Objects level, rather than just from the Geometry level node?
Why would you use Absolute path?

I understand the use of Paste Relative Reference to link two parameters so they match if one is changed, but what is the difference between Paste Relative Reference and Paste Absolute Reference? An example would be helpful.

Has anyone found that the tabs on some menus like the popup Display Options don't open if you click on them with an external mouse? They seem to respond OK if I only use the trackpad on my laptop, but if I start using an external mouse, this eventually seems to cause them to become unresponsive to the cursor and I need to restart Houdini. There seems to an issue with using an external mouse, at least with this version (18.5).
I would like to know if there is a fix.
