FireGL?!!!
I'd rather buy any GeForce 4 TI 4600 (currently around 250$) and make Quadro4 900 XGL
out of it

We work with ATI to help them get their drivers more compatible with Houdini
You do?!
This is great!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've got to admit there was a lot of progress.
As a matter of fact, the latest driver(released on September 12)
works just fine!
Thank you very much for your effort!

Thank you very much Steven!!!
Couple more questions.
I couldn't find anywhere in documentation anything about any of these changes. I mean the syntax in index files and especially in SHOP index files that are located in $HH/shop.
For instance:
#ifndef __HFS_DISPLACE_
#define __HFS_DISPLACE_
/*
*
*
*/
#if !environment(HOUDINI_HIDE_RI)
#include “shop/SHOPdisplace.ri”
#endif
#if !environment(HOUDINI_HIDE_VM)
#include “shop/SHOPdisplace.vm”
#endif
What are all the if's are doing here?
Another thing i've noticed is that some of utilities in $HFS/bin has been recompiled with different names. For example, pwd has been changed to hpwd.
I was able to figure this one out by simply going through bin directory but I couldn't find the ls utility there so currently I have no way of viewing the contents of directories when I work in Houdini command line tools.
Is there any place where I could read about all of these changes?
Once again… Thank you very much for your time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In my $HOME/houdini5.5 directory I've created vex and shop directories with all the subdirectories and index files as it is shown in Shaders.fmk.pdf file.
Here is the layout of both directories as well as the first line of code in every index file to include all of Houdini's default operators and shaders.
$HOME/houdini5.5/vex/
Chop/
Cop/
Dialogs/Sop/
_______Pop/
_______Chop/
_______Cop/
Displacement/
Fog/
Light/
Mat/
Pop/
Shadow/
Sop/
Surface/
VEXchop include $HH/vex/VEXchop
VEXcop include $HH/vex/VEXcop
VEXpop include $HH/vex/VEXpop
VEXsop include $HH/vex/VEXsop
$HOME/houdini5.5/shop/
/displace
/fog
/light
/shadow
/surface
SHOPdisplace include $HH/shop/SHOPdisplace
SHOPfog include $HH/shop/SHOPfog
SHOPlight include $HH/shop/SHOPlight
SHOPshadow include $HH/shop/SHOPshadow
SHOPsurface include $HH/shop/SHOPsurface
Now!
When I start up Houdini, “Houdini console” pops up and number of warnings are being displayed.
Warning: can't find dialog script for operator include
etc for every index file respectively.
(Also! For some reason. Warnings for SHOP index files are being shown twice :shock: )
Could someone please tell me what I do wrong?!
Do I use a wrong sintax for index files or what?

This is an update to my post in this thread regarding Radeon8500
ATI released next version of driver for this card two days ago(version 02.3) and everything seems to be working fine now.

I'm running Apprentice version 5.5 build 36 and this is the one I've downloaded from VisLab server.
If I go ahead and order an Apprentice CDs from SideFX right now, will it be the same build 36 or 98(or whatever the last one is out there)
I'm asking because I've learned from mailing list that some improvements has been made to COPsv2 in latest build(Swap COP in particular)

Radeon cards is a very bad choise for running Houdini on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ATI's OpenGL support for their consumer cards is only good for running some of OGL based games but not Houdini.
The best you can do is create a system variable(Control Panel/System/Advanced/Enviroment Variables) called HOUDINI_OGL_SOFTWARE and set it's value to 1. This will ensure that Houdini doesn't use your card and it will work flawlesly. However, this means that main CPU will be used instead of your graphic card but since your processor is preaty fast, you should be fine for most of the time.

It looks like Techimage server doesn't support resuming downloads.
You could use download utility of some sort. GetRight or something else.

Also! Upon installation Houdini creates folder called “keys” and places it in
C:\WINNT (that is if you are running Windows2000+Houdini5.0) The keys are placed in there. If you have trouble uninstalling old licenses you can try deleting contents of “keys” folder.

I'm just guessing here but could it be so that you have to uninstall the old licenses first and only then install the new ones?
Give it a try.

Blast works for me just fine!
You just forgot to insert the primitive number in “Group” field in BlastSOP parameters!
After you selected primitive(or point, or whatever) in EditSOP, plase a BlastSOP and in it's parameters choose a Group Type accordingly to your selection. Then click on a button to the right of “Group” field and choose desired entry from a dropdown.

Guess this one goes to people at SideFX.
I waned to know if there are any plans to add to VEX an ability to insert a thumbnail image in to an operator or a shader?
For example.What if somebody is creating some kind of a cloth shader which will have several predefined patterns.A dropdown box will be created with #pragma choise so the user can choose the setting that meets his need.But how does he know how it'll look? Here a little thumbnail would help a lot!This thumbnail would just be an image that was prerendered with this shader and with the current setting chosen.
Also, the thumbnail would have to be updated according to every setting being chosen from dropdown.
I guess it would look something like this.
#pragma thumbnail pic1,pic2,pic3 etc.

I'm viewing this page at 1024x768 with Explorer window maximized and the right side of the forum doesn't fit in to the window.
It's a bit frustrating because every time you click something and new page is loaded, you have to scroll the page in order to see what's on the right.
At the same time, there is lots of white space to the left from the forum pages.Would be good to make the size of the frame in which the forum pages are loaded just a little bit wider. 30px or so.

I think, the more the merrier!
Besides, folks who created Houdini will allways be here,that way we will be able to get the answers to our problems from the first hand.
Great job people. Thank you!
ps. I like the emoticons :mrgreen:
