Linux .deb installers?

Hey,

Is is possible to take the downloaded code for Houdini and make a .deb package installer out of it? Manual installation is a bear.

All they really need to offer is an .rpm which would cover RH/SUSE… and all the Deb/Buntu people can use Alien to convert it to .deb.

Thats what autodesk does with maya… double click install!

I don't see this as a hard process is actually very simple

although a GUI would be very nice and I don't think that's hard to do

anyway, you gotta love the terminal that's what make's linux guys seem like big geeks

You can pass arguments to the install script to make it “single click” if you want. Just type ./houdini.install –help

It's a lot of arguments to pass, but the handy thing is you can always make an alias out of it.
