Hi,
I am struggling trying to render noise free refraction with Mantra.
And one thing that was recommended to me was to change the Stochastic path early cutoff to probability instead of Throughput. And it does help, a lot, but can anyone explain me what it does?
refractions indirect noise...cut off method.

“Throughput” basically limits the number of indirect bounces based on estimated amount of contribution to the final image. “probability” is putting it in user's hand.

I see, so basically in probability with a cutoff threshold of 1 will basically never cut off early the stochastic ray sample while a value of 0.1 will give 10 % chance of cutting it off?

dleeHehe…yes that's what I meant.
Value of 0.1 will give it 90% chance of terminating at each bounce.
Although… right now there's a bug where the cutoff threshold is being ignored entirely under “probability” mode. There seems to be a ticket for it already.
Thank you. I'm really trying to speed up my renderings with refractions and this helps a lot in understanding the cut off methods.
