Is there a hotkey to swap between different networks quickly instead of using the dropdown menu?

A while ago I've made a RFE suggesting to have the contexts as buttons as well (think of Total Commander drive letters (if you're using that)), not just a drop-down that also acts like a path.

You know how quick it is to navigate between modeling, animation, Rendering and ICE menus in Softimage using hotkeys.
I think workflow in Houdini can gain a good speedup by having hotkeys to jump from Geo to Shop and to Out Networks. Look at the speed gain by having hotkeys to jump between the different viewports.

I just wanted to know if anybody knows of any hotkeys to do this as I could not find it in the hotkey manager. I will RFE this if I get no answer.

sound cool.

what if you can use the tab key to get a folder menu:

SHIFT+TAB > “your path”
SHIFT+TAB > “* path to desired node”

I sort off found a workaround.

1. Create extra pane tabs (Network view) for the Networks you want to access quickly.
2. Change them to whatever Networks
3. Use Ctrl + Tab to flip between the tabs quickly.

In meantime you can use these Shelf scripts for faster context switching with custom shortcuts.

Please follow install instructions in the archive.

Unfortunately pane under mouse cursor method is not implemented yet so it picks first opened network tab instead the one under cursor.

Hope it's useful.

EDIT: Simplified deployment using Houdini's native paths for custom modules.

Werner - that sounds like a good workaround, but when I mess with one Network Tab, the other tabs change to match it… Does this happen to you?

This is awesome, Petr! Thanks so much for posting this!

I added a MAT switch context to the pz_switch_network_context.shelf file as well. Hope you don't mind, I'm reposting it with that added.

Thanks again, this will be a great speedup.

While you can do this with python, SideFX added this feature not too long ago. I can't post a screenshot because I'm at work, but if you're in the network editor, there's a bar at the top with these entries: “Add”, “Edit”, “Go”, “View”…

In the “Go” dropdown you will find Options like: “Objects”, “Materials” etc. which correspond to the contexts. You can bind these options to hotkeys. You can find these hotkey options in the Hotkey Manager under the context “Houdini - Panes - Network Editor”. They are called the same way as they are in the network editor dropdown.

I hope this helps.

Shades and Xilofoton you guys ROCK! been wondering this for years.

Shades, what he meant is, if you click on the Go menu, and then hold down Shift-Ctrl-Alt (option on Mac), and THEN choose something like Materials, it automagically takes you to the hotkey editor for that key! SO GREAT!
