I'm looking at buying Apprentice HD. Do I need to buy one license for using with Ubuntu 7.1 Linux version and then buy another license for using with Windows XP?
Or does one license ($99) cover both Linux and Windows?
Thanks
Do I need to pay twice?

No, that doesn't apply to my situation, they say:"Q. Can I use Houdini Apprentice HD on a different computer than the one I installed on it (floating licenses)?
A. No. Houdini Apprentice HD, like Houdini Apprentice, uses a node-locked (+.+.+.+) license that can only be used on the computer it's installed on. To run Houdini Apprentice HD on multiple computers, you need to buy multiple licenses.
I do not want to run it on a different computer. I have Win XP and Linux both setup on the same computer (dual boot)
Thus I have them on the same computer, different OS-not on two separate computers.

OK, but in the same FAQ you could find the answer to your question:

I read the FAQ, but didn't see that one. Thanks-now that answers my question properly!
I thought that separate licenses would be needed, but it never hurts to ask.
Much appreciated.

when it would be impossible to use both licences at the same time having to buy 2 would be a bit rough.
Personally I don't see the reason why SESI doesn't allow cross-platform license schema. Pretty common around. I don't think there is much income from that beside annoyance of users.
I mean I understand the Apprentice limitation, cross platform would need floating licence, but this is not possible in commercial either, am I right?

Hi, think i have a slightly similar problem. Anyhow, here`s my issue. I have been trying out Houdini Apprentice HD on a virtual machine on my macbook pro. I eventually had to delete said virtual machine as i encountered several problems using another software. Now i set up a new virtual machine on my macbook pro, fixed my problem, but now my Houdini apprentice licenses are invalid. now is there around this or do i simply have to purchase new licenses? What can i do with the ones i currently own if i cannot use them?

Isn't that similar to the problem here?
