Try adding a ‘fuse’ between the box and the polybevel. It will make sure all the points are welded together

Hey larikaram
Here's the file I messed around with some more stuff after I posted, there wasn't anything special to that setup just dropped a torus bumped up the columns/rows to about 50 hit the ‘cloud rig’ then bumped up pixel samples to about 30. Tried using both manta and PBR to see which looked better
For those interested there's a good post HERE

on how to make volumes look good

I just purchased a new 12.5 licence, logged in selected the options for 12.5 there were only two Houdini-Master-NonCommercial 12.5 and Render-NonCommercial 12.5 I believe. Rendered out a 1920x1080 image and everything works fine.

This is probably a really stupid question.
Why does it take so long to render out a volume to the same quality from what you see in the viewport.
Also is increasing pixel samples the only thing I need to achieve the same level of detail and how can I reduce the render times.
TIA
Juan

Try increasing the pixel samples under mantra > properties > samples > pixel samples

i had to force the gtx580 into the slot…You can use a thing called a ‘riser’ which will give you some extra space to play with.

Here's an update
http://vimeo.com/55119218 [vimeo.com]
There's still a lot wrong with this sim, scale is off, bad lighting, timing is off, I'm getting strange artefacts on the geometry etc…
And the video editing software I used to convert .jpgs into a video sequence stole some of the dust plume.(see attached image)
Anyway I think I will leave this as is and start another destruction project altogether which will focus on the above issues and more.
Best regards
Juan

What would be the better approach to create gritty/heavy dust, the type that falls from demolishing a wall. I tried using particles but they seem to render out really large and using the smoke presets seems to be too wispy for what I'm after.
