Again I will post my own answer.
What i have found from another forum is that Houdini Aprentice is NOT multi threaded because it is the Aprentice version.
Work around is to sequence your hip files accordingly and launch 2 Houdini apps.

I have a dual 1.4 athlon, gig of ram, lots of disk space running win 2k with Houdini Aprentice Edition 5.5.

I Figured out my own question. In the SOP Space you a POP tile to import the correct POP net work. thats how you bring in the particle info from the POP Space. Then to attach my meta balls to the particles I used a COPY SOP … the META BALL SOP in the LT side of the COPY SOP and the POP SOP in to the RT of the COPY SOP … there you have it.

Hi ya..
Fisrts Im trying to create a random life for my particle POP.
I am birthing particle from a grid. This expression doesnt work for a random life span: rand (0,50)
All this expression does is allow for very subtle movement on the surface of the grid.
Next I have a metaball that I would like to attach to these particles. Im not exactly sure how to do this. I have in my pops net work attached a instance pop and it looks like it is working. I then brought the POPs net work in to my OBJ with a SOP and in SOP added a POP node. The particles come in fine. but the meta ball attached in the POP net work didnt come along with it. Where should I attach my meta ball to my POP net work?

I am trying to create a 3d texutre with a resolution greater than 128,128,128. Every time I do a factor of 64 higher the 3d Texture Generator crashes.

Hello out there.
My question is concerning the volumetric smoke tutorial that comes on the tutorial cd from SideFX.
I get every thing to work sucessfully. My only issue is that when I try to animate the camera through the cloud.. it dissapears on frame 2.
how can I get the meta balls to stay put?

Hello out there
Ok.. 1st the crashing. I cant seem to keep the Aprentice version up for too long while Im trying do to lots of key frame animation but thank goodness for the TEMP file that is writte.
2nd. Every time I close Houdini Aprentice .. after I quit out and save/discard (or what ever) I always get a out of memory error every time.
Now Display issues. some channels dont show up when I try to scope them. for example. Sphere .. the scaleY.. just will not showup some times. Then when I change desktop back to training and the shift_MMB then it shows. Then that widow frezzes up and I then tried to scope it again.. nada. so I go back to the traning desktop .. the channelEditor is up .. but I cant see the function curve.
Any suggestions?

I tried to do the “toggle geometry detachment” Yes this worked to move the this worked but I am trying to do squash and streach. When I translated th Y scale by its self the center of the sphere remained at 0,0,0
My fix was to copy the parameters and paste prameteres ref in to the Y translation . This made it work. But now I have to use another xform tile to animate the Y of the up and down.
Do you have any other suggestions? Is this the way a bouncing ball with squash and streach works?

hello every one.
Im trying to change the pivot of a sphere so that when I scale only in Y the sphere scales from the bottom up. never breaking the ground plane.
so far I have the sphere tile then I have tried to use the xform and the xformaxis . It moves the translantion handles but not the scale pivot.
can any one help?

hello out there.
Ok here goes. I am trying to build a network that creates a bouncing ball with springs and a lattice. I have done so with success.
here is my process.
In SOPs:
Create SPHERE… sphere out put to BOX box creates the deforable “boundig box” which is then fed in to the second imput of the lattice. The sphere is fed in to the first output of the lattice. Then another oup of the BOX is fed into the spring as well as a GRID (the collision object) in to the secong input of the SPRING. The out put of the spring goes to the third in put of the lattice.
Ok I get this. it works.. now why can I not use the original shapes as the deforable surface? more specificly how would I get a cube that has been rotated 45 deg to collide with a plane on an edge not a flat surface. I would like to see the dynamics tumble the geometry because of the edge. Is that unclear enough?

Hello out there.
I downloaded the Aprentice Version.. 4 days ago. Worked fine till today. now it Houdini Simply will not open. It goes througth the checking for server but doesn't find one. Then the installer asks me to install the licence server again.. that is successful, then the installer checks for the lic over the net again unsucessful… and then back it starts over again.
I have uninstalled houdini and restated. Now I will try to reset my modem.. Ugg..
Any suggestions?
