yes, I did say that didn't I?

we could have invented some sort of custom format to store the rig, but the skeletal geometry is right there so why not
it's just a quirk that you can then load this geometry and view it - makes for some fun tricks!

try to fill some of those holes first, use polyFill etc

and I think the mesh needs to be reversed also

yes, I go through it in the tutorial

but the main difference is that jointcapturebiharmonic:
does a bunch of stuff that you don't know about and don't have much control over (and I'd argue don't need)
hides everything from you - so you don't know what is going on, and can't figure out how to fix something if it doesn't give the results you expect.

the biharmonic capture in Houdini is the best that I've ever used, and with some planning, breaking up your mesh into logical pieces, using different resolution tet meshes (see the tutorial) etc will give you the best results

if JointCaptureBiharmonic is giving youtroubles I would just do it maualy

place down a TetConform and feed your mesh into it
place down a Bone Capture Lines and feed you joints into it

place down a Bone Capture Biharmonic
feed the original mesh into the first input
the result of the tetconform into the second input

I have ALWAYS found this to be a better result than any other capture method I used

if the Cube only has gravity applied (which would be a force of (0, -9.8, 0) ) ...then why would it move in any other direction?
there is likely a step in whatever tutorial you're following that adds some force that you've missed.

with Houdini 18.5 some aspects of the Autorigs were refactored, and this work was planned for the face rigs, but with the advent of KineFX it was decided that the time it would take refactoring them would be better spent on newer KineFX based workflows, including facial rigging.
