using h14 from past a month now very cool..
One of the most of frustrated things i have encounter so far is no more help with python and hscript and i am sure someone has answer here.

In h13 i use to get help like that but in h14 its broken only work around for now is to load up h14 help page and search for function there and get help kind time consuming. Same thing
also this happens with copy stamp expression in hscript as well.
Anybody who can help here will be super appreciated..

in Linux you can find under this /tmp/
when you copy something it saves out .cpio file inside temp dir.
Just like this

this is caused by heat field slowly expanding into collision object and since divergence and combustion density are dependent on heat field, they will follow
you could correct density by changing Combustion/Smoke/Source to Burn, however that would still leave the heat (flames) and divergence penetrating your collision object
so better way is to remove heat from collisions by Gas Enforce Boundary DOP

Deleting scene view and creating new fresh scene view sometimes fixes, So you don't need to restart houdini session.

Hello Folks,
I am trying to figure out why my smoke is not colliding with my object. I have attached HIP file.
This is what i understand (please correct me if i am wrong)
In my setup file i have tons of gas released this is creating tons of divergence which is totally expected but it seems like its not caring much about collision. If i look at divergence field it creates divergence where my collision exits. I thought it would take that in account but its not …
I really don't know what i am missing here.
Couple of things i tried so far. RBD Static Object, VDB Collision, Adding collisionvel (in my case just i just used N as V), tried changing bunch of parm in pyrosolver such as correct collision and adding substeps and all but nothing helps.
I think i am missing something simple to fix this.
Any help would be appreciated.

It looks like the dual uvs are working fine, but you don't appear to have any rest field data, or the positions in the rest field aren't being updated at all. Did you sim out the rest fields as well?

There seems to be something wrong with your geometry.
All faces are not connected with any other faces.
If you can tell us how you generating the fracture geometry maybe someone can help.

I opened up file and tested and everything seems to be right.
I am not getting more fluid in my container.
Something might be wrong with Houdini Version so just try with different version.

I had similar issue other day and seems like its actually calculating right.

Wondering if anyone has had similar issues as this:
Am exporting an RBD sim from Houdini to Maya for lighting via Alembic:
Unless I triangulate the mesh before export, the Alembic importer in Maya tells me the UV's are not per vertex and so do not come through. If I triangulated the mesh post-sim the UV's come through fine but the MBlur produces weird results in both VRay & Maya Software.
I've found I can solve this by triangulating the geo before sim and both UV's and MBlur are then fine - although regrettably by sim is 10% less awesome than it was.
The boffins at my company insist their importer is fine, and it's the Houdini exporter that might be the prob.
Has anyone had a similar problem, or aware if this is a known issue?..

I can't compile OpenVDB.
It seems they changed the Makefile again, since Edward's recipe to compile it is not working.
Ubuntu 12.04
OpenVDB v0.96.0
Houdini 12.1.77
Sourcing houdini_setup
Makefile is for sure pointing to Houdini headers and libs, but is not working.
Can anyone help me?

I complied the newer version of the OpenVDB(0.96.0) and it comes with OpenVDBConvert SOP which convert Houdini Volume to OpenVDB Volume and It works great.
The only problem i am having is how to render OpenVDB Volume. (No idea how to write Mantra Volume Procedural )

Right now is possible to convert a VDB grid to a houdini native volume primitive to for example use as collision?
It's not currently possible to convert between the native Houdini volumes and VDB but I hear it's on the todo list for the integration work.

Hi, I'm trying to export my RBD sim to Maya using the Alembic file format but I'm having no luck on the import into Maya. I get the following error message.

Seeing as there are pretty much no options to try I'm not sure where to go with this. The .abc file also seems to be fine if I re-import back into Houdini.
Houdini end I have a sim baked out as a .bgeo sequence. In a new scene I'm bringing this in with a file node (works ok) and simply trying to export this as an alembic file. This takes a while and spits out a 15gb file.
In Maya 2012 (2P09) I import the Alembic file with the ABCImport plugin via the UI but after import I get a ‘geo1’ node which refers to the object in Houdini but no actual geo and the message above in the script editor.
Any ideas? Not sure whether the issue is with the export or import process. A simple .abc file with a few primitives worked fine.

Hi,
I'm using Houdini 12.0.634, and I would like to export my geos/animations in alembic format containing for the multiples objects informations. For the moment I have multiples objects animated and each object as a define group in Houdini. When I export I get a merged animated object in Maya with the alembic exporter
There is a partition attribute parameter but nothing appears in the folding menu (either group or attribute..)
Any clue?

I had same problem didn't spend to much time searching around why its doing that.
Easy Fix : Just use Poly Separate tool in Maya and it separate out easily.

If you are using Apprentice Version of Houdini then you can't export FBX from Houdini.

Using Houdini 12 production and daily build.
I did the Alembic SOP, it's a bit faster, but I'm still getting about 1-3 FPS in the viewport whereas in Maya I'm getting ~ 10FPS playback in the viewport.
Mac Pro 4,1 16 GB RAM + ATI Radeon 5870 on OS X Lion.

I am having the same trouble with the alembic octopus example scene - I can barely even tumble the camera in Houdini, yet it plays black smoothly and flawlessly in Maya. I'm using OS X Lion, Houdini 12, and Maya 2012.
Does anyone have any advice?
Try importing like this >> Geometry > Alembic SOP and read alembic file.
