I have a plane setup and textured. I would like the texture to be marked vertically in 1 foot increments that match the Houdini Units. What is the quickest way to determine where to draw these lines with a paint program so they are rather accurate when mapped to my plane in Houdini?

The solution was actually to select the wrist and them slide the IK slider to the right and it would show up.

That was it. I just did not realize that each install used its own lic admin - Now I know..

Hey Rafal,
I may have done the wrong thing yesterday, but I returned one and tried to reinstall.
But, I may have found the problem? I installed a daily build 9.5.339 and I did not notice it did not un-install my previous version 9.5.303
I have two lic servers. The 9.5.303 shows Aprentice with 1/1 available, the new 9.5.339 shows 0/0
Could the fact both these are still on my system making it appear as though I have more lic? I can remove the old one.. I may have clicked that old Icon and that may have started the problem.

All my files are .hipnc so not sure why that would be the issue, but sounds about right. But i get errors simply opening Apprentice, not calling up a file. hate to reload.

Nope. All green lights are working and all lic are good till 01-Jan-2037. I will need to look over the DIAG information before posting. i generally never post Diag information publicly as it can contain lic ids/machine and IP numbers which is never good to post public anyway.
In looking in the diag I see nothing out of the ordinary, however my lic server does list 2 Houdini Apr HD lics. One with available as 1/1 and the other 0/0. My laptop when running Lic Admin only shows one, with a different ID than these.

I have been using Houdini with no problem. Today I started to call up Apprentice and it stated a library I am using may be considered non-commercial if I continue. However it will not let me continue. I also get a lic error asking me about my lic and if I want to install one.
Problem us it lists my valid lic and Aprr will not start.
Any suggestions? Like I say has been working fine, but I took a week or so break.

I may try FBX again, I think I had. But I figured since I have to re-rig this model anyway to get the structure aligned with Torque, I might as well learn how to rig a character with Houdini as well. Easier to fix problems later, if I know how to create them. But will try FBX later just for the heck and see what it does.

Arghh! Nevermind.. My help menu was taking me to an old help page, I found the page with the “Current” documents which has more tutorials on it, including how to use capture geometry.

I have a character that I am moving from Max to Houdini and the Collada export is not going well. I have to rescale the character and as well as change the bone structure, so I only need the geometry anyway.
That being said, where can I find info on how to take an existing character and rig it for use in Houdini?

Oh yes. I troubleshoot CAD and integrations and pass solutions to IT (or the problem). What I love is when I contact a user about their trouble ticket that states “Can't load model”. After 5 emails the answer is still “It just wont load, Dick Tracy, figure it out.”

No. I need to correct my above statement. The reason it was not showing up in TGEA 1.7 was because I had, and most others had created the bounding boxes ourselves. It is present in 1.7, 1.8 and I will assume TGE though I have not tested.(I just retested before posting in 1.7 to double check).
Sorry, should have clarified. Yes, if you create your own custom bounds, you should be fine. I looked at the bound and I did not see anything out of the ordinary, but now that you mention that, might be something to look at.

The solution for me was inside the Torque Render node I select use custom bounds and created my own bounds box. Seems there may be an issue with how Houdini is exporting the bounding box, shows fine in Showtool Pro but not in TGEA.
At least that gets my models in TGEA with no crashing in Debug, Release works, collisions work and it seems that it renders fine.
Here is test I did creating my own bounding box. Others are free to use it and test/confirm if that solves the issue. I submitted a BUG report to Houdini, so hopefully they can look at it and correct if the issue is on their side.

Ya…goofy, how a ‘release’ version is NOT crashing the engine; while the ‘deBug’ version is….I'd keep hammering away from that vector.
? What is going on in the debug binary that is not happening in the release version, and does it matter, if the ‘release’ is not crashing to desktop?
Try to get an ‘official’ answer from a GG employee on this, be great to know what is going on here….
Just to update. The failure in debug is critical, meaning it crashes. In Release there is a bounding issue where you can run into the object (ring) and you will get stuck. So although you may place the object in Release, you will have issues later on.
The issue is not there in TGEA 1.7 only 1.8 (so far in my testing). Does anyone know (sidefx employees help) if the Houdini exporter has changed at all in the last couple of builds?

Guess I need to reply back the crashing and freezing on mine has been eliminated. Turns out my graphics cards are overclocked and I needed to add some more voltage to my DDR3 memory. Problem solved, and I must admit, seems like a new system.
For me I am back to the BETA Nvidia drivers.

RMB on any sop and you will see “ Save Geometry” and there is a drop-down list of all the formats that can be saved out.

That is what I was missing. Gets me the other formats, may they will incorporate other formats including Collada later.

I was also asking for other formats that I can use also.
According to their main website it states support in the HD version for bgeo,obj , dxf, iges and more…..
So where are those formats as well?

Since I needed to export for the Toruque Engine I purchased the Houdini HD.
However, after installing I see the only export I have is for the Torque DTS format.
So is there no way to use the HD version to export to any game engine other than torque. Right now I have downloaded the XSI FREE modtool and have already rigged and expoerted a model in collada.
Looks like I may have bought a $99 exported for Torque?
