For anyone other's who need a newer glibc under Wheezy, I had no problems (so far) installing it from Jessie in my setup.
I roughly followed these instructions (http://linuxaria.com/howto/how-to-install-a-single-package-from-debian-sid-or-debian-testing?lang=en [linuxaria.com]), though I ignored anything to do with sid, and just added Jessie to my list.
This is what my /etc/apt/preferences file looks like:
Package: *
Pin: release n=wheezy
Pin-Priority: 700
Package: *
Pin: release n=wheezy-backports
Pin-Priority: 650
Package: *
Pin: release n=jessie
Pin-Priority: 100
And my update to libc6 and libc6-dev pushed them to 2.18, and everything is working so far.

Perhaps each operation would be added to a new operator stack paramter; sort of how the Draw/Stroke SOPs give each stroke a tab?

I noticed that under Windows, even native nodes could have problems. See the Voronoi Fracture.
Edward, are there plans to update the SVG library under Windows? It's obviously not as important as things like tbbmalloc issues, just curious!

The solution from the previous thread doesn't seem to work in this case. But it was worth trying
The computer is an HP Z1, the card is a GTX 670M. I've tried it with Fedora 19/20, Ubuntu 13.04/13.10 (and Xubuntu versions of those), and CentOS 6.4/6.5. Viewing only moderately dense volumes/geometry was terrible - which made sense when I realized the card was being throttled.
CentOS “shouldn't” have problems, since RHEL is what HP supports on the Z1. The 670M is not on their supported list (Quadros only), but I've seen the problem from another Z1 user, with a Quadro. If you're curious, here is the thread: https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/608043/hp-z1-with-nvidia-3000m-having-extremely-bad-performance/?offset=15 [devtalk.nvidia.com]. It's on Nvidias radar, but haven't heard if/when it'll get more than a bug number. Probably not soon, since relatively few are encountering it.

I wish I could use Linux, but on this particular computer I can't. The graphics card gets throttled by powermizer to only run at 73Mhz, so viewing things is awfully frustrating. Been trying all combinations of flavors, kernels, settings, org.conf, and drivers; and nothing will run at full speed.
But I'll try that solution from the FLIP thread; I hadn't thought they would be related at all. Thanks!

I've got a question for Windows users (I almost never use Houdini under Windows, usually Linux or OS X): has anyone encountered a tbbmalloc.dll_unloaded crash when launching Houdini, but Houdini still launches and (as far as I can tell) runs fine?
I thought it might be Houdini related after reading the FLIP-tbbmalloc-Windows thread, but turns out it's not. I've run every Windows update, and installed every Visual C++ Runtime I can see, but nothing's fixed it so far. Any ideas?
Thanks!

by the way which version of openvdb is shipping with hou13 ? I just realized that pyopenvdb just seems to be part of openvdb 2.0.
Building it for linux was no problem but on windows I have no clue ..
Yeah, H13 has version 2.0, but the python module was added too late for inclusion in H13; probably will only be included if people request it.

Will the python bindings of openvdb be included in houdini ?
Nope, they aren't included, and from what I've been told, there isn't a plan to include them.

Hmmm, it's working for me. Tried it under OS X (Houdini 13.0.198.21) and Ubuntu (13.0.231), and in both cases, I see the results in the first attached image. The AO mode is much noiser, but it's definitely AO.
Either it's a Windows-only issue, or an issue in your particular build of H13, perhaps? Which Houdini builds are you on?
One idea for a work-around: in your ROP, if you add the grid object as a Phantom Object (see second attachment). Does that do the same object?

If those colons are part of the command, then they wouldn't work.
The installers should be fine; I just downloaded and installed the latest build on Xubuntu last night.
Maybe try re-downloading it again?

Thanks halfdan; I can imagine how frustrating it is on your end too.
- RedHat 6.4, Gnome 2.28.2
- X.Org X Server 1.13.0
- Pretty vanilla settings (Click to Raise Window, standard window stacking, I suppose)
- I do have Super + Mouse for Window movement
- Double-click on title bar is set to Roll Up
- Quadro 6000 (VBIOS 70.00.72.00.06, in case that matters)
- Nvidia 325.25 drivers
My screensaver is just a blankscreen one, haven't been able to tell if it's a GL one or not.
I suspect it is, as after I move the mouse to bring it back from the screensaver, the viewport goes blank, and I have to relaunch Houdini to see anything other than wireframe mode. We saw that earlier, with 304/310 drivers, but it went away under 12.1/12.5 with 319 drivers.

Hmm, screensaver eh? Goldleaf, do you use screensavers (GL ones in particular) there?
Yeah, but it's just a blank screen screensaver. I'll check tomorrow when I get back to work to see if it's still a GL screensaver.
And I actually saw the phantom outputs appear for the first time today. I couldn't consistently reproduce it, but I'll keep I the lookout.

Is there some way to edit the hou.session and userdisplayoptions in a hip file from within Houdini, or via hython or something? Right now, the only way I see to do it is via hexpand/hcollapse, and wondered if there was a faster in-session way to do that.
Thanks!
Thanks!

That's frustrating; that might be a good asterisk/footnote for the Requirements page, since I can imagine a few surprised OS X users; like what happened with OpenCL Smoke sims on Macs.
