Yes, the sea geometry looks very nice. Does anyone got any idea of how to make some foam procedurally? (like what maya's ocean does for the ocean textures)

Hi there,
I am currently trying to do some LOD rendering. While I was trying to use the LOD sop, I had trouble to define the “Low-res”, “mid-res” and “high res” model. Does this LOD sop work like rman's readArchive but using camera's distance?
Does anyone got any example hip to show how LOD sop works?

Hi,
I love the Vex builder a lot since Houdini version 7. But I just do not know why the ramp in Vex builder is just not as convinent as cop's ramp. It just will take a lot longer time to make a desired ramp with spline Vop. Does anyone know if I could import the cops's ramp into Vex builder in Houdini 8.1? Or how can I easily create a ramp with my desired colours and desired st value in Houdini 8.1's vex builder? (in Max and Maya, the rampsare just a lot easier to be created)

I now know what “Rivet” does! I think it could be used for nailing a botton on a peice of cloth.

Rivet is a tool for attaching objects to the surfaces of other objects. You give it an object then a couple of points of the surface, (usually a the points of a face), and boom you got a rivet.

I am now testing out some of the new features of Houdini. I tried to understand what “Rivet” does. After reading the “hdox/houdini/content/base/model_rivet.html” page, I still could not get it working. May I ask if “Rivet” just doing simular thing to Maya's wrap deformer?
If you got the “rivet” working, do you mind to attach a simple example for me. SO that I can study how to get them wired correctly.

when I tried to preview my scene with Renderman, “gzio: Invalid argument” appeared on my Houdini console. (It only happens in Houdini 8. It did not happen when I was using houdini version 7) Does anyone know what it means?

I am rendering a scene with depthmap shadow but part of the shadow isn't showing. I think it should be the problem with shadow bias. Does anyone know how I can adjust shadow bias in Houdini if I am using rman as renderer.

Someone told me that Houdini 8 has got cloth in it. I am just wondering if anyone has used it! I want to know which one is more stable and efficent, syflex for Houdini or houdini 8's cloth?
because I am thinking of buying syflex for Houdini. But if Houdini 8's cloth works well , I will not buy syflex. I am a student so I can afford to buy a student copy of syflex!

In houdini, the only types of light that can be chosen are cone light and point light. Does anyone how I can put a directional light or distant light in Houdini in order to simulate sunlight?

I tried to copy a light on each point of a curve but after I used “object merge” to import the light to GEO section's “copy sop”, all the lights become spheres(geometry).
Does anyone know how I can copy lights using the copy sop?

I am planning to do some character skinning with Houdini.
The first thing that I think I need to solve is how I can have an object slidding underneath the skin. e.g. How can I have a torus slides under a grid? Does anyone have any clue of how I can do it?

Hi!
I tried to generate a photon map for a scene in Houdini's renderman rop. The mmmm.gpm has been generated. But it is a blank image when I tried to view this photonmap with the sho command.
Can someone pls point out what I did wrong on the process of generating a photonmap? What I did was Turning on the “generate photon maps” in the specific section of the “rman” rop. Then I input the number of photons and the gpm file path. I also put a “*” in visible reflection/trace and visible photon. But I still cannot get it working. I also checked the rib file. the photon commands are there.
Hider “photon” “integer emit” “jitter”
Attribute “photon” “globalmap”
