Hi Guy,
I usually run a python/perl script to modify the houdini perferences file. As John mentioned they should be in your home directory.
Cheers,
/Rick

I just downloaded that file and was wondering what the heck was going on in there since it didn't look like standard Vex syntax

Hi,
When I installed Houdini on my Gentoo Linux box I got the same error.
I don't know if this will work for you but here's what I did…..
I opened that houdini.install file in my favorite text editor and jumped to line 681 and remove the word exec on that line. I saved the file and ran setup and houdini installed fine.
If you don't feel like editing to file, maybe try switching to a tshell or Cshell before running setup. I don't know if changing shells will work but it's worth a try
Hope this helps,
/R

I'm using Houdini with Gentoo linux and it works pretty good. I have some problems with dual monitors (one day I'll search for a solution) but otherwise it's just fine.

Maybe he's using an older version of apprentice. I do remember installing one of the builds when ver 6 was in beta/development and I was able to setup a renderman ROP. I thought “hey cool! Too bad I don't have renderman!”
With the current build, renderman and mental ray is removed from the menu on Apprentice.

When I installed Houdini on my Gentoo box I think I had to install:
lib-compat
tcl
tcsh

This problem was with me as well on linux. I think I just had to update my tcsh files and I was all set. Can't remember exactly, I do recall reading about the solution somewhere either on here, odforce or the mailing list.
Edit: Found the thread. Although it pertains linux specifically, perhaps it might help you. Here's the thread. [sidefx.com]
Hope this helps,

Thanks for the tips fellas!
I've gotten this to work like a charm as per your suggestions. Still having some other issues with redraw but I'll keep digging into it.

Ahh I spoke tooo soon! The problem is back!
FYI, in houdini 5.5 it works fine! The problem seems to be with houdini 6 and my setup.
Any thoughts?

Hi,
I saved a scene with 3 background images. Now when I load up the scene, the viewports that have the background images are blank?
If I space+ t and space+t again it refreshes correctly?
After I save the scene and close houdini I get the following error:
/usr/hfs6# Fatal error: Segmentation Fault
Saving application data to /tmp/root.hip
Crash log saved to /tmp/crashlog_root
Error: The core dump handler was called recursively.
———————————————————————
The contents of /tmp/crashlog_root is:
———————————————————————
Crash report from root; FUSE Version 6.0.286
In case you are wondering I have the following set in my houdini_setup script :
setenv HOUDINI_OGL_DBL_BUFFER_FIX 1
———————————————————————
Edit: I'm using Linux and my video card is a Geforce 3 Ti500
Any ideas on what's the scoup?
Thanks,
/Rick

The title sums it up!
I'm on linux and I'm trying to adjust display options per viewport (space + d) so i can load background images.
If i try to select another viewport (space + x) while the diplay options are open, nothing happens? Shouldn't it select the viewport that my mouse is over?
However if I close the display options window and try (space + x) it works as it should.
Is this by design in Houdini 6?
Thanks,
/Rick
