Not sure if this has been mentioned before but…

In the apprentice version of Houdini the external renderer exports were all disabled, presumably as apparentice needs to watermark output.

However, the HD version doesnt watermark its renders, so is there still a reason for disabling export to renderman compatible renders etc?

I believe that's just the configuration of the package. There are a handful of features which are available in Master that aren't in HD Apprentice.

I believe Apprentice HD comes with only one mantra token - as PRMan output would imply unlimited network rendering.

This makes a difference.
