CLOUDS
Create stunning skies with Houdini’s built-in cloud system, designed for both artistry and efficiency. Sculpt individual clouds or generate full sky boxes using shapes like spheres and lines, then enhance them with noise for natural variation. Visualize your clouds directly in the viewport and render them efficiently with new materials optimized for Karma XPU.
Cloud Tools
Houdini comes with a cloud system which you can use to sculpt individual clouds or set up Sky Boxes for covering the complete sky.
Cloud LookDev
Generate cloud shapes using spheres, lines and other shapes then add noise and prepare for rendering. These clouds tools are designed to be visualized in the viewport and new materials allow for efficient rendering with Karma.
HOUDINI IN PRODUCTION
Hennessy The Seven Worlds
MPC London's epic visual experiment to represent the seven different taste notes of Hennessy in the form of a four minute short film, directed by Ridley Scott. In this short, they run the gamut of VFX using Houdini's tools to generate clouds, celestial scenes, flocking birds, a woodlands shapeshifting character, and more.
Solaris
Clouds are fully supported in Solaris for look development.
- Vulkan support lets you visualize retraced shadows in the viewport for quick realistic previews of your clouds.
- Solaris Cloud Procedural is a HUSK procedural for generating clouds at render time.
- VBD is supported in USD which provides stronger support for clouds in Solaris.
- Quick Cloud Material is a MaterialX shader with Karma XPU support that offers multiple scatter methods.
Cloud FX Nodes
Here some of the nodes to look out for when working with Clouds in Houdini. These nodes let you add shape, noise and density to your clouds.
