Hey all,

I've just installed (eek!) Windows Vista, and I keep getting this error when I try to launch houdini:

License Error: Unable to connect to hserver for license aquisition.

Ideas?

With Windows it could be that you have to set the licensserver in License Admin to either localserver or some remotemachine. Don't set the licenseserver to be “hserver” .
Or it could be the firewall, or even the host file under /SYSTEM/drivers/etc.

It's weird. I'm using both H8 and H9 - when I install H8, it works fine, but then when I install H9 as well, I get the licensing error. I've never had this problem before.

there was a post a while ago about the change in lic server for 9…I don't think the old 8 server plays well with the new one for 9

what version of 8 are you running?

8.2.154 - maybe I should try an earlier version of H8.

I've got it working now - after trying several configurations and installation patterns, this works for me:

1. Install H9 normally.
2. Install H8, but without the re-installing the license server.

If I installed H8 first, I'd get the confilct that I mentioned earlier.

so the problem must have been that it was the version 8.2 of the license server that was running instead of version 9.0. The license server v8.2 is not capable of serving 9.0 licenses, so Houdini 9 would not run.

I suppose - it's worth noting, however, that I've installed H9 after having installed H8 in the past and it worked fine.

Did you install the 32-bit or 64-bit version of H9?

And on 32-bit Vista? I don't think there's really much difference between 32-bit Vista and 32-bit WinXP.
