Hi,
Wouldn't this work?
mplay wedge_myparam_.*.0001.tif
Shader parameters can be dependent on time. You're confusing it with putting animated channels in VOPs which is not allowed. So, you can use a fit() function in the shader parameter and render 10 frames to see the results.
Cheers!

Hi,
It is standard. Think of it as a mouse focusing window system where your cursor has to be over the window to activate it.
It's certainly annoying at times when the pop-up steals the focus. If you script a lot, you might want to turn off the pop-ups completely so you won't have the issue or make sure your mouse cursor is above the line.
Cheers!

Hi,
If you have the “Clear completed frames” toggle turned off in the Render Scheduler, Houdini always gets stuck on the first render frame. This has been logged as a bug since 9.5 but please submit [sidefx.com] it again.
Cheers!

It probably has to do with particle fluids taking into account pscale of the particles. There is a recent fix for the pscale too so please check the journal.

Hi,
When you use a Transform SOP, it is local space so neither parenting nor Fetch works.
If you transform at the Object level, parenting and Fetch will work.
If you really need to use a Transform SOP, you can use channel reference (ch() function) in the yellow_box transform channels to reference the Transform SOP's channels.
Cheers!

Go the Attribute tab of the Copy SOP and turn on “Use Template Point Attributes”. This will copy attributes to the geometry so velocity attribute blur will work.

Technical Discussion » Creating .rat file for transparency map?
- stevenong
- 1631 posts
- Offline
Hey,
You don't need a .rat file for transparency maps. It should work as long as the image has an alpha channel in it or the shader has support for using luminance or individual colour channels.
More information about Random Access Texture (.rat) can be found here [sidefx.com].
Also, you're confused between creating an environment map from a cross HDR map with isixpack and converting any image format to .rat with iconvert [sidefx.com].
The file I used comes with Houdini. It can be found in $HFS/houdini/pic/ and there are other images as well.
Cheers!

Edit: Added isixpack and iconvert paragraph.

It seems to me Boujou's script or hip file is not updated to Houdini 10 so the camera does not have all the default parameters.
You can go to the Gear Icon of the camera's Parameters, Edit Rendering Parameters…, expand Mantra 10.0 > View and look for Enable Background Image & Background Image parameters. Select both parameters, click on the “->” button to add them to the camera and hit Accept.
Now, the Boujou camera will have the correct parameters.
Cheers!

Hi Naohito,
For a batch render script using hrender, please check out this thread [sidefx.com].
When I replied, it didn't occur to me about hrender being a csh script and that's why it didn't work for you.
Cheers!

Hi,
You can use hrender to batch render hip files. However, please read this thread [sidefx.com] first for more information and alternatives. If you think the hscript alternative works better for you, you can stop reading now.
I'm assuming you're on Windows but if you're not, most of it should still apply. hrender is a csh script so you have to start the Command Line Tools and in the command prompt, type “csh” and hit Enter.
Now, type “hrender -h”, hit Enter and you should get the usage text (which you should familiarize yourself with). This means you're good to go.
To test, you can do the following:
hrender -v -d your_ROP cpath_to_your_file/file_with_no_spaces_in_name.hip
This should render out a single frame. The -v option will print out information as hrender runs.
By default, the -e option renders the frame range set in the ROP. If you want to specify a new range, you have to do use -f start end:
hrender -e -f 4 39 -v -d your_ROP cpath_to_your_file/file_with_no_spaces_in_name.hip
To get a batch render going, you have to create a csh script but before we do that, we need to copy a line from the hrender csh script.
Open up Windows Explorer, go to the directory where you installed Houdini, for example, C:\Program Files\Side Effects Software\Houdini 10.0.xxx\ and go into the bin directory.
Look for hrender and open the file with Notepad or your favourite text editor. Copy the first line that starts with “#!Cblah blah blah”, start a new Notepad and paste it.
You can copy & paste the following in the new Notepad window but skip the first line as it is what I copied from the hrender csh script on my machine.
If you have spaces in the path or filename, you have to put double quotes ( " ) around it to make sure the script knows there are spaces.
#!Csoftware/HFS100~1.295/bin/csh.exe -f
hrender -e -v -d ROP cno_spaces_in_path/no_spaces_in_file_name.hip
hrender -e -v -d ROP “cspaces in path/spaces in file name.hip”
Please edit the file as needed and note the use of forward slash ( / ). You can save the file as “batch.csh” in any directory or in the same directory as your hip files.
To test the script, you can start a new Command Line Tools, navigate to the directory where you save the file and type:
csh batch.csh
I recommend testing with just a few frames for each hip file to make sure everything is working properly.
Please let us know how it goes. Have fun!
Cheers!

Hi,
If you want to render a background with your render, use the Background Image parameter (under the View tab) of the camera.
If you just want to see how your render looks like over a background, you can use the Background tab > Filename parameter of mplay's Display Options.
Cheers!
