@zengchen01 can you explain how do you use it to generate simple roads, or suggest any specific tutorial you follow.
Trying to do this using OSM data, but with no luck (a beginner anyway).

Thanks, this is interesting for the houses part.
Main problem right now is about roads, didn't find anything like that for roads.

Trying various approaches to generate roads starting from OSM data.
Tested with PolyExpand2D, Straight_Skeleton, PolyExtrude, sop_sweep_geometry but the best I can achieve is with polyextrude these odd twisted geometry, all the others give error (I suppose for intersecating curves) or didn't result in anything. The .osm data file can be downloaded at this [drive.google.com] link.

Solved: using QGIS I'm able to read osm file and export in shp format.
A pity can't be done in Houdini (at least I didn't find a node able to).

Using OSM Import SOP I was able to import the OSM vector data.
For reuse on realtime engine I need them to be exported in ESRI Shapefiles .shp format.
I didn't find any tool useful for this work, does anyone have experience on this.

Houdini for Realtime » (Solved) GameDev Terrain Mesh and Texture ROP not working with Apprentice

Ok I can confirm definitely was a license problem.
Upgraded from Apprentice to Indie and after converting my Apprentice project using Orbolt [www.orbolt.com] into an Indie (ask to upload the .hipnc and then you can download the .hiplc) I was able to complete both the ROP nodes generating mesh and textures.
Just a problem, Houdini crashed after executing the Terrain Mesh ROP with this message
This in fact filled my whole 32GB RAM, can I consider this was the problem?

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » Viewport clipping plane

Is driving me mad.
Setting the Homing auto, or Neither and setting the near clipping plane to 0 didn't change anything.
The alert tell me the changes are used only in a new viewport, but reopening Houdini didn't change nothing either, nor I find a damn way to create a new viewport.
Viewport management is the single thing I like less - to be mild - in an outstanding software such as Houdini.

Testing a workflow switch between 3ds Max and Houdini, another step is discover how is possible in Houdini to assign multiple materials on the same object, the same way in max is obtained using multi sub object material.
I didn't find a specific solution, any hint in the right direction is welcomed.
The goal is later to export in fbx and import in a realtime engine.

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » Select duplicated objects

Evaluating Houdini to substitute 3dsmax in working with CAD files using Linux, I need to work now on an architectural model composed from 41.000 different components.
One of the main problem is to regroup them selecting objects identical to a specific selection such as these one
In 3dsmax and other programs there is the “select similar” command that is working well in some cases, otherwise there are scripts able to select objects evaluating how similar are in term of geometry (vertex and faces).
Didn't find anything of this kind in Houdini, as beginner wanted asking for suggestions.

@nagapavan in fact after experimenting with Houdini and the renders I understood was impossible for me having the time to learning by doing, too slow to obtain any result with my resources.
So shifted my interest to realtime engine, now after one year Unreal Engine release the beta of his new fx tool Niagara, hopefully I will be able to experiment using a node-like approach but with realtime results.

Added in my graph the various nodes and appear resameple facet and hole itself didn't generate a perfect shape in the B
Instead using only divide does work
Still didn't understand why Houdini didn't created closed shapes, in fact the divide [www.sidefx.com] node does the same cleanup done from 3D Builder, in theory not necessary if the shape was be closed from the beginning. I didn't know if his design model (N-gons, NURBS, ?) did prevent him in creating closed shapes.

Will be able to test it tomorrow, but looking at your setup requiring many more steps I'm curious to know if there is a technical reason why Houdini didn't produce a closed shape in the first place.

Experimenting the export in Unreal for VFX creation, noticed in Houdini letters with holes are disconnected
Exporting as obj and importing in Unreal they resulted empty
Looking at the obj model there are holes.
Correcting using 3D Builder all appear to be ok.
Will be nice to know how to export it correctly from the beginning.

Testing the “Disintegrate geometry” tutorial I got this strange behavior: in a 75 frame animation the text object disappear from the viewport and also final render at frame 8,9 and 13, in all other frames is there.
Here in frame 7
Here in frame 8
I didn't find any keyframe or anything else that might create this behavior.
Attached the project file if useful.

Using Affinity Photo [affinity.serif.com] (Photoshop-like), but also HitFilm Pro [hitfilm.com] (AfterEffects-like) does have problems.
Since the upper part is transparent and his size depend from the lower content the images are considered from HitFilm as variable size instead of standard 1280x720, and it's impossible to produce a video.
Discovered Davinci Resolve is able to produce it but with discontinuities (some gaps).
Also the images are really dark respect the Houdini Render view.

Rendering out a particle sequence appear all the parts without any particle/object are cut out leaving a white band with variable height
There is any Mantra parameter setting to do so.

The Ryzen series is completely different from the old FX you currently have. Much faster, less power needed.
In my opinion with a Ryzen 1700x you got the best for the cost, 16 thread vs 12 of 6800k an advantage for every multithread task, less cost with also the standard Wraith Spire Led cooler included, more power efficient at 95w vs 140w of the 6800k, faster supported Ram. The Ryzen 1700 cost even less and can easily overclocked with standard cooler and mobo to the same clock of the X version.
Single thread performance will be 5-10% below the i7, not noticeable in day work.
Also if you plan to install 32GB Ram I suppose you didn't have problems with the 64GB max.
About the mobo if you didn't need advanced overlock or features you can use a standard B350 chipset such as the MSI 350 Tomahawk, with a long list of certified RAM, possibility of mild overclock, good price.
