Create a hda from a subnet containing the camera nodes instead.
From the picture it seems only the viewport icon of a camera is inside the geometry node.

Solaris and Karma » Component Builder Variant troubles

NMVHSAhmedHindyI'm exploring a similar setup with for each loop. I wonder how you set up the component output node in the end? I lost all the variants somehow after adding component output node. The solution to this problem is to use one ComponentMaterial node per geometry variant. You need to plug them between the ComponentGeometry nodes and the ComponentGeometryVariants node. You can hook them all to the same materialLibrary node.
this maybe works for this simple setup, but what about a for loop for the component geometry lop that feeds into the componentGeometryVariants lop?
I cant get the materials to apply to each variant except the last variant.
Thanks!
I have the same problem :/

Yes, look into the fetch node inside ROPs. You can connect those in the correct order and press render.

Solaris and Karma » Best way to hide faces/polygons from mesh in Solaris?

Hello
What is the best way to hide faces/polygons from mesh in Solaris?
Example if I want to hide the faces on a body mesh that's under cloth mesh to remove the issue of penetrations.
Would it be possible to do this on the USD file that contains the shader assignment? that's gets layered on top of an Alembic file?

You get 3 Houdini Engine indie licenses for free, you can use those to render. Install them on the relevant computers with License Manager.
If you don't get license manager with the Steam version, I would just download Houdini the regular way on the machines that are going to render.

Thanks both, I will try and record a video this evening, but it does seem that Skin Collision was the culprit here. Turning it off actually cause much of an issue in the way the fur reacts I would love to solve the problem properly, I have no idea why the tips of the fur when intersecting with geometry would cause a massive pulling effect.
Maybe it's a scene scale issue. You should be able to jump into the dopnet and turn on the visibility on the collision objects that Houdini use internal in the sim. If the scene is to small, stuff can happen :p

Hard to tell without seeing it in motion. But have you tried to increase substeps on the sim, and see if it helps?

Technical Discussion » How to get correct pivot from an alembic exported from Maya?
- Heileif

Hello
I'm trying to get the correct pivot from an alembic exported from Maya, But when imported to Houdini as packed alembics the pivot intrinsic value is wrong :/ It's at the center of the object.
Example if I have door, I don't want the pivot to be in the center of the object. I would want it to be on the corner so I could rotate it correctly. But I can't figure out how to get this information inside Houdini from the Alembic.
I would expect to get the same value as in Maya.
The same alembic works as expected when imported into Maya.
After spending allot of time on this, I'm crossing my fingers for some help from the Houdini wizards!

Hey 5D, did you manage this issue? I have a similar problem, but not from the speakers but from the laptop case itself. The most weird thing is I did stress test to the GPu, CPU, SSD, HDD and there was no any weird sound. I tested some videogames and again nothing unusual. I even did some simulations in Houdini of previous versions and again it was normal, nothing weird. But as soon as i turn on simulation in houdini 19, it makes very low but weird sound from deep inside of my laptop. Sound like a microchip is doing something, or like r2-d2 is hiding inside my laptop))
My bets are on coil whine.

Watching the View Presenter struggle to change materials on the Lab scene is a grim warning about USD workflows - in my opinion.
I cant think of a a scenario where I dont want to be able to change a material on an object. I totally understand the "non-destructive" nature of USD, but, material assignment and instance vs real rules?
It just doesnt sit right with me: How can you effectively present that in the UI as to why the USD prim material cannot be changed and advise the user how to do what they are attempting? At a minimum, the user is gonna have to go and browse the web and FIRST find the rule that's preventing them from changing the material on an instance, which is hard in and of itself.

Solaris and Karma » Does Husk need a license? other than the render engine used?

lisuxjsmackHello jsmack, that means that husk just need a valid license server online?Heileif
Hello
Thank you for the reply!
I'm using Windows to.
I tried using ip adress and writing 'localhost' after your reply.
Localhost gets converted to the computer name :/ But now i get a message about Karma license will expire soon, so progress i guess.
From my understanding of Husk is that it should work without license, and only needing license from the render engine beeing used. But maybe i'm wrong?
All the houdini tools require a connection to the license server with valid licenses present. Husk or mplay and the like do not 'check out' a license to work.
If at the moment I kick the render there are no more hbatch licenses available it will start the render?
Thanks
Yes, it should work.
All our Houdini and Engine licenses have been in use, and Husk(Connected to same license server) still rendered fine.
