The development team is working remotely with success. Release dates will be revealed as we get closer to the real date. (Keep an eye out in June….)
In the meantime, check out Fianna's video which sneak peeks a few fun items coming down the pipe:

I would, honestly, suspect June 2020 to be a candidate for 18.5, not so much for 19. But what do I know … :-)

Out of here. Being called a dick after having supported Houdini users for years is over my paygrade.
I will work for money, but NOT for "you have to provide people with free products" Indie-artists.
Good bye.

Since you really ask….18 is pretty buggy. Even if 18.5 or 19 offer nothing more than bug fixes and an improved Solaris workflow it'll be a welcome release.

I'd definitely not like if SideFX copied some other companies and just slapped new version on the bunch of bugfixes

Sure, but the fact that I had to give you more money just to get basic functionality in H18 is kinda not great (for me).
But Modeler is just the tip of the iceberg for myself, starting with incorrect Finder/File Saving functionality in OS X which is still wobbly, to H18 Apprentice which is ridiculously sluggish compared to Indie, to an API which changes with every new build and which causes 3rd party add-ons and renderers to break.
With as much love as I have for SideFX and Houdini, I think H18 has been a bit of a wild ride, and I suspect the team in Toronto realizes it.

SESI is not to blame for the fact that changes in v18 led to the failure of the Modeler plugin. I like geometry calculation changes they have added in H18. The fact is that H18 works faster with mesh.

Then you should have issued a free update!

I agree with Midphase, just getting Solaris/Hydra stable would be enough for me for H18.5 - along with updating to the latest USD spec. Like, I cant believe there was zero crashes during the HIVE presentations.
I mean, they are blazing new trails here, going where no DCC has gone before with USD/Hydra, while ALSO building a Render Engine at the same time, so kudos to the efforts of the SideFX R&D team here, for getting this far - but, there are potholes a plenty in H18.

You should remove files after previous version. Try it in temporary new Houdini18.0 folder

100% this. Foundry's Modo v10 was a paid upgrade for bug fixes. They were quite brutal about it.
I would be for a version somewhere after Solaris / Karma / TOPs, etc all get settled in that was devoted to quality, speed, etc with less emphasis on new features. Much like Apple did with its Snow Leopard release (and should do again IMHO).

Ever since Fianna Wong mentioned to keep an eye out in June for “something” I keep hoping that by the end of this month there will at least be an 18.5 sneak video released. We're down to one week left, so I am curious if an announcement is indeed coming, or if Fianna was simply referring to the Houdini 18.0.499 production build release?
