I've just now found out about Spy, so this may be user error on my part, but I can't get Unix commands to work with the “F” key.
This is the error I receive
/bin/bash: /bin/file: No such file or directory
Continue:
To my understanding, I hit “F” then start typing my command, but the error above prevents me from doing this.
Also, just to be clear. The help for H8 mentions using “%” to reference tagged files. Can somebody give me a syntax example?
I'm using Ubuntu Studio 7.10 64 bit.
Thanks

On my version of Ubuntu, file is in /usr/bin/file, not in /bin, so I think the default command is wrong (which is a bug :-)
From my ~/.spyrc
map f unix file %
map H unix houdini -geometry=1600x1200-0+0 %
map 1 jump =$HOME/Jobs
Oh, to test it out, you can type ‘:’ in spy, then type “map f unix file %”+<Enter>, then try it out…

Not sure exactly where you are at, but you start by typing “spy” in a terminal in a Houdini environment.
I can start spy, I see; although extremely quickly in my terminal the words spy in ASCII. From there all I see is a path, the current system date and a tag <empty> ?
What is that which I'm seeing, and how to I begin to use spy ?

You could start by reading the help:

The documentation would help, if I could get it started, as I mentioned in my post; when I start Spy, it only shows the SPY in ASCII then the following numerous times.
pcName-PC: //wsl$/Ubuntu/home/userName Fri Dec 27 16:25
<Empty>
Weird, did you start spy on windows linux subsystem? Maybe stick to starting it from the command line tools (dos prompt).
