It's not a bug. It's because the polys have a Cd attribute of 0,0,0 (black). They're also imported as a bezier nurbs.
You need a color sop to change to white (normal Houdini poly colour) and a convert sop to change to polys. You can adjust the resolution on the convert sop or use a resample before the convert to adjust the res.

@peteski: This isn't working for me in 18.5.351. I select multiple nodes and the Make Selection box comes up, but when I select the node type and hit Accept, nothing happens in the Parameter panel. Any ideas?

Forgot to add the test file. Includes a .hip and the MIDI file. Tempo in Ableton was 100bpm.

Hi Marc,
Thanks for your explanation. I'm not new to using MIDI (been making music for many years with Ableton and Max/MSP), but I am new to using MIDI files and Houdini together. Didn't realize MIDI files didn't contain tempo information.
My test:
1. output a MIDI file from Ableton with some regularly spaced notes.
2. import that MIDI file into Houdini
3. Use the MIDI to trigger events in Houdini synced with the timing of a separate exported audio file of the same MIDI data
My issue is I'm not sure what tempo/speed Houdini is defaulting to for playback of the MIDI data. Any idea if there is there a way to modify that tempo of playback?
Thanks!

I'm trying to trigger events using a MIDI file, but the tempo seems much slower when I export a Flipbook and the animation from Houdini doesn't line with the sound file of the same midi. Everything is 24 as far as I can tell.
/obj/Keyboard1/MIDI_IN_CHOP_EXAMPLE/chopnet1/midiin1 > Chan > Sample Rate: 24
FPS: 24
Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

SideFX needs to take on the Otoy/Octane model which allows me to log off of Octane on my MacPro, and then log in on my Windows machine with 2 graphics cards to render.

In meantime you can use these Shelf scripts for faster context switching with custom shortcuts.
This is awesome, Petr! Thanks so much for posting this!
I added a MAT switch context to the pz_switch_network_context.shelf file as well. Hope you don't mind, I'm reposting it with that added.
Thanks again, this will be a great speedup.

I was able to get Atom running instead of Sublime, but it locks up Houdini (endless wait/beachball icon) when I save.
This worked for Atom
Does Sublime lock up when you save? Or do you have a workaround like just copying the text back into Houdini's editor?
This worked for Atom
EDITOR = "/Applications/Atom.app/Contents/MacOS/Atom"

Hi BabaJ,
Thanks for the reply! I haven't been able to get Sublime working with Houdini.
My .env file currently has this as the path (but I've tried other variations)

Is there a way to make the VEX editor a little easier to work with in terms of typical text editing conventions?
I'm new to Houdini, but I'm honestly surprised basics like this that exist in every text editor I've ever used are missing in Houdini.
The basics:
1. Ctrl/command-left arrow or right arrow pushing the cursor to the end of the line/selection
2. Select-All and left/right arrow will go to the end
3. Shift-Alt Left/Right arrow usually selects the whole line so you can quickly jump to the beginning/end
Is there a way top add these in the prefs or via the shortcuts editor? I'm on a Mac, so not sure if it's related to that.
Not expecting this, and it's more of request, but extras like holding to do cross hair style vertical multi-cursor selections would be nice too.

I’ve tried the path with and without escape characters, but neither works. It shouldn’t matter, as its in quotes, but I saw other posts where they used escape chars.

I'm trying to set Sublime as as external editor (should just be in the prefs), but it doesn't open anything. I've been searching around, but no ones seems to have found the answer. I've tried varying the path name to the Sublime app many times, but it none of them open it. I've been updating the houdini.env file and closing/re-opening Houdini with variations on this path:
EDITOR = “/Applications/Sublime\ Text.app/Contents/MacOS/Sublime\ Text”
ALSO:
EDITOR = “/Applications/Sublime\ Text.app/Contents/SharedSupport/bin/subl”
EDITOR = “/Applications/Sublime\ Text.app/Contents/MacOS/Sublime\ Text”

Please excuse my ignorance if this is simpler than I realize or harder. I did some searching but I'm not exactly sure what to search for.
I'm trying to go from line segments to a poly mesh surface for a dynamic weaving Entagma tutorial.
http://www.entagma.com/pbd-dynamic-weave/ [www.entagma.com]
It's not part of the tutorial, I just need to find a way to take the dynamic animation and apply a quad/tri poly mesh on the same surface of animated lines coming out of a popnet.
Can someone point me in the right direction? Sorry again, still learning!

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » Changing navigation keys

Is there a way to change the default keys for navigation? I'm willing to learn everything else about Houdini but I have my navigation consistent among the apps I use (Cinema 4D, Modo) and I'd like to be able to carry that over in Houdini if possible. If not possible, that would ridiculous as the app seems so powerful.
I would like to change it to:
Pan: Alt + Shift + LMB
Zoom: Alt + Ctrl + LMB
Rotate: Alt + LMB (already by default)
Is this possible? How?
I'm happy to dig into some files to hack it together if necessary.
Thanks!

I'm trying to learn VEX and prefer to have the larger vex editing window open which according to 16.5.268 can be accessed by typing Cmd + E or Alt + E. Neither work on my machine.
Anyone else having this issue?

Mac Pro (Early 2009) — 4,1

Enivob
Are you running in Detail mode on the wrangle?
Also what is the value of sample? If it is 0 then your step_angle will never increase theta and you will end up in an infinite loop.
THAT'S what it was, thanks Enivob! Sorry, I'm still new to VEX, but it makes sense now. Thanks for your help!
