here are the fixes…for both versions

i can read…
i did test with packed alembic, my point, as jsmack said, ANY packed object NOT JUST ALEMBIC
No, i concede i don't have H13, so i tested the earliest version than 16.5 that i have which is 16.0
I never proved/disproved anything before 16.0

well to prove jsmack's point, I test with 16.0
01) torus
02) assemble, enable pack
03) color red
does not show color, disable pack will show color
substitute the assemble with copytransform, make 5 copies, pack and instance
same result, will not show color, disable pack will
pretty easy test to repro…no need for any complicated geo…alembic or not….

here, in the else part put this in:
(ie. get minvec then set x,z components to 0)
I'm not a coder so will not accept responsibility if you blow up your 'puter..
else: geo = display.geometry() pivot = geo.boundingBox().minvec() pivot[0]=0 pivot[2]=0
(ie. get minvec then set x,z components to 0)

Thank you for making that video that explained a lot! I am a little bit confused when you say having the point numbers before copying. How would you find out the point numbers before you have created the copied geometry?
I meant if you use copytopoints…..then the template points you feed in to the 2nd input, manipulate them first BEFORE you feed them in
so if I make a line, give it 20 points, I want to copy boxes to these template points, then use groupbyrange say on the LINE points to select every 3rd point (just an example), then feed these into copytopoints

Thank you that works! If you wanted to do this with a copytopoints node how would you do that?
Not sure if i understood your question…but if you have the point numbers BEFORE the copying process…then simply manipulate the point numbers with a plethora of methods…then copy to the new subset of points ?
The copy to points doesn't have the ‘create group name’ option I don't think.

I've done a HDA here for the case that you are STUCK with the group names and cannot go back and enable the Copy Number Attrib:
(I haven't looked at your question above tho)

dunno, but it's far easier if you enable Copy Number Attrib in the copy and transform (I'm assuming you are using this here) then use @copynum to delete (or blast)
(coz…it's a number…not a string)

easy…
(you could just skip the CTRLS and just use the value ladder in the carve…but it's more userfriendly)
(don't know the exact meaning of ‘shave off’…ie. from which end…but I'm sure you can adapt/flip the logic to suit your needs)

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » Extrude two opposing edges outward and horizontally?

so I tried on edges, they still extrude out correctly and not inwards like yours…but of course the bottom edge would be angled rather than straight because of the normal…but who would select the BOTTOM edge to extrude for the porch ? makes no sense at all…

not sure how you created your holes (porches) first…before extruding….if you delete to create holes THEN extrude…that could create screwy extrusions…
Rather, just select the prims to be porches, extrude them, it will use the existing FLAT faces for the extrusion…THEN delete to get the holes after.
I did this this way and it works absolute fine..

probably not dictionary, but if you bring up help (F1) then search for VEX, go to ‘using VEX expressions’…it's pretty good

thanks Matt,
you screwed up my head real gooooooood now !!!
Anyway, this is not a fix in any way shape or form, it's more of me dissecting the problem…I notice these ‘clock’ icons…so sorta tweaked…got anything to do with timeshift ? dunno, anyway I moved the spin around into the loop…as said…i don't claim to have fixed anything…just dissecting…
