Native APEX nodes will be added more over time. But if you could do it with native APEX nodes, then they should be faster in theory. Use VEX for anything else.

Which path did you link from? For 20.0, you'll need python3.10libs or python3.9libs depending on which installer you use.
Technical Discussion » How to link Multiparms between HDA and its child nodes?

The manual way to do it is to use the opmultiparm hscript command which adds the magic connection so that the necessary channel references are created when a multiparm instance is added.

We've started slowly adding docs but to help you get going in the mean time:
The inxform matrix is rotated so that it points its -Z axis from its position to the position of the lookat transform, while orienting its +Y axis towards the position of lookup.

Technical Discussion » Can not get HDA Section 'Contents.gz'

There are options when saving the HDA as to what compression is used. So if a different compression is used, the section won't be called "Contents.gz". I think it's best to first check out what sections are actually available in your HDA with
print(n.type().definition().sections())
.
Technical Discussion » Need help fixing overlapping copy to points geometry

There's no good general solution to this, especially if you're trying to get a compact packing. If you're using Scatter, then you could try to fiddle with the settings to space them out more like by increasing Relax Iterations for example. More often than not, I think people just either manually or procedurally detect the overlaps and then just delete those points until the overlaps aren't visually distracting or until they're all gone (which might be bad because then it looks too sparse again).

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » Parenting stops working

toonafish
even just selecting a SOP will do this sometimes.
The only reason I can think of causing that is some desktop setup where you have certain panes and/or viewport states active that are at the OBJ level jumping you back.

No, but sounds like a bug to me too. Please submit with steps to reproduce with your hip file. It's very likely hip file specific.
Houdini Indie and Apprentice » Copying/pasting nodes from apprentice to commercial license

It works with different licenses but when you paste nodes that were copied from an Apprentice file, it will convert your commercial file into Apprentice because you're not allowed to use Apprentice to do commercial work.

It's not supposed to matter so much because the retargeting process does things relative to the rest pose.

I'm not sure what material types that UE supports via USD. At the very least, I think you need MaterialX materials in Houdini to even have a chance.

Rigging » For loop in APEX: what goes to __spare__?
- edward

In the next major release, we're going to be stricter with this. Passing anything you use inside a loop through the "spare" is the right thing to do as it allows better topological sorting of the graph for evaluation. This includes nodes inside If blocks as well.

Rigging » Geometry unpacked from folder isn't writable? Why?
- edward

Just to explain, the geometry objects returned by unpackFromFolder() can be a reference to the geometry directly inside the packed primitive for efficiency reasons. So doing "freeze()" gives you a writable copy of the geometry.

The handle itself is missing this functionality in the Rig Pose state. In the APEX Animate state, you can do this by holding down Ctrl+Shift when moving the controllers.
