This will output
/path/to/hip/folder
in Python SOP and $HIP
in the Python Shell.var = "$HIP" print var
But either of these will output
$HIP
in both Python Shell and Python SOP.var = "$" + "HIP" print var
var = "\x24HIP" print var
Cheers

chsop() VEX is similar to chsop() expression which has much better worded explanation
https://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini/expressions/chsop.html [www.sidefx.com]
so essentially, it evaluates string (or operator path) parameter and expects to find a path to the operator
it will turn it to full path stringchsop("parm")
is sort of likeopfullpath(ch("parm"))
I wouldn't guarantee that it's exactly the same, but without thinking about it too much the use roughly seems the same to me
tamteRight, thanks! This is indeed the procedural way I was looking for, bit more work but may be worth it!probinerto make it work change your Iterate parameter to Over Channels for example (help page contains more info)
I just tested it by prefixing with "box:" before the transform channel name and did not work
int digits = floor(log10(opdigits(CN))) + 1 ; chrename(CN, point("op:../../ToCHOPS3", "chop_prefix", C/9) + CN[:-digits]) ;

have you tried Rename CHOP?
rename from: *
rename to: object:*
or Channel Wrangle CHOP
chrename() [www.sidefx.com] VEX function
object:channel

i ended creating 2 json files one for arnold and one for renderman

do u happen to know how to install renderman with arnold? i installed it fine until i need to add spare parameters to objects...
it requires the renderman parameters declared first ( or else the spare parameters are empty) but if i do that everytimes i create objects houdini creates error ( when it tries to add custom parameters for arnold, and this seems to be the default behavior if u installed arnold) any sugestion?
thanks in advance

and I even tried to run it under a user without "_01". I'm witnessing this same problem in both Fedora and Pop!_OS, so I'm starting to wonder if it's an hardware issue... vustaYeah this is not what I was after given then wobbly behavior but there's other materials it will be perfect for. Thanks
solver 4 substeps, default 100 Const Iter...I'm not saying this is the result you want tho, just foolin' around.
vustaUnsure what led to this comment I've uploaded the file in the first post and mentioned the parameter changes that made the behavior happen for me. That said there's plenty of taking ideas out of the community and reintroducing them as part of a repo or a commercial tutorials without attribution. Plus there's more readers than helpers in any public setting.
(while I'm at it, cannot stand people who are so preeeeeeeeeecious about uploading their files, my god...as if we...the helpers are not good enough to look at their RnD files...pffft)

Hey probiner,
good point, I would like to know that, too!
Cheers
