H17 Launch Presentation

SideFX's Cristin Barghiel (VP of R&D) and Scott Keating (Senior Product Designer) cover the top features of Houdini 17 at the launch event in Montreal on October 2, 2018.

Release date is targeted for October 10.

    Back when I used Maya, I had a ton of software that simply handled individual tasks that were beyond its capabilities. Zbrush for modeling. Substance for texturing. World Machine for terrain. xNormal for baking. Marvelous Designer for cloth. Arnold for lighting and rendering. Various plugins for scattering foliage. Houdini was even a supplemental software for pyro and water simulations.

    Years later, now we simply use Houdini and Arnold for most tasks.

    After H17 drops, I won't even need Substance or Marvelous. We have texture displacement working in the Houdini viewport, and should have a handle on COPs by the end of the year.

    Our jobs just keep getting easier!

    Fantastic! Would we get some of those sample scenes? (particularly interested in the pyro scene driven by the particle simulation)

    This is why I've switched from Maya to Houdini. I can do everything in it, but in a more systematic and controlled way. I completely dig this program.
