Enivob, because this setup is using packed primitives, each point represents one primitive, so @ptnum and @primnum match.@Matt: Ah, but is that good practice to obfuscate nodes? Would the code still work running over primitives instead of points?

That is weird but you are passing incorrect values to the functions. The help file mentions that the primintrinsic is used for operating upon primitives yet you are passing a point index. You are doing the same on the set. My guess is your are not changing what you intend to change because of index skew.

I also just noticed that previous image attachments did not migrate to the new forum. Is this a still a WIP or are we cleaning the slate and starting over?

It is not part of the Alembic scene node , but that is just a subnet. Inside, each geo object will have the Geometry tab I mentioned.

Testing RAM might not prove your system is stable only testing under load, which Prime95 does, really determines if your system is stable, You mention an FX8350. Are you over clocking it?
Are you monitoring the heat of your CPU under load? When chips get too hot they fail and the system will crash or blue screen.
HWMonitor [cpuid.com], a free program, will allow you to monitor your CPU heat under load.

Start off by creating a spotlight then assign a gobo texture to the Projection Map field. The light type will default to Point. Go ahead and dial in your spotlight cone options. To obtain soft shadows change the light type to Grid, this make the light an Area Light. Lower the Area Size to soften the shadows to match the shadow edge in the gobo texture.
Here is an example of the above technique.

Take a look under the Geometry TAB of the geo object. There is a combo/dropdown where you can turn off Render As Points.

Sounds like a reasonable approach. You may want to look into Instancing vs Copying for final deployment.
There is a nice example file here that demonstrates the speed benefit.

Can you verify the stability of your system and hard drive?
Overclocking can cause this kind result.
Also bad RAM or mismatched timing RAM chips might cause this.
A failing hard drive might cause this too.
Does your system meet the minimum hardware requirements to run Houdini?
Try running Prime95 [mersenne.org] for 2 hours straight. This is a free program to test the reliability of computer.

I have the same problem as the original poster. I can no longer copy and paste new items to and from the clipboard, on OSX.
My paste always gives me a copy from a while ago.
I don't know how to clear the clipboard. I can't find those files mentioned above.

When installing Apprentice, you don't need the license server so choose the other option.
When I get license failures I do an uninstall and re-install.

Your test scene renders fine on my machine without producing any error.
If you are over clocking or wondering about the stability of your motherboard give Prime95 [mersenne.org] a try. It will stress test your system.
The way it works is you just run it for two hours. If your system stays up and continues to work then your motherboard and overclock are stable. If there are problems they are reported as failed threads.

I don't think you can put a geo inside a geo, it is a top level context. You can put a geo inside a subnet but you would have to create that subnet first or have one in your scene that you can reference.
You can create an ObjectMerge inside a geo and reference an external geo object that way.
What are you trying to do?

Technical Discussion » How to get an attribute when a glue constraint is broken

Inside your AutoDopNetwork dive into the remove_broken SOP solver attached to the glue network. When a bond is broken it is added to the group broken.
NOTE: You can also re-write what happens in the remove_broken solver and control when bonds break. For instance, ObjectMerge in an effector style object and use an attribute transfer to determine if the effector is close enough to break the bond.
Use the removeprim function in an AttributeWrangle to cause a bond to break.
removeprim(0,@primnum,1);
