Particles are just points so you can copy an instance onto the point.
You can always use a PopWrangle to make custom modifications to rotation or other attributes.
There are hitcounts that you can review inside a PopWrangle to decide new actions,(i.e. move the particle to a new group with forces only affecting that group).
If you have not checked out the Rain HDA on orbolt, it has some nice features such as particles falling, colliding with other meshes, drops running down a collision surface and forming drops when they hit the ground.

The Wispy Smoke material is expecting a volume attribute named density to exist on your object. That is why it does not show up on basic geo. It is typically used with volume rendering.

That looks a bit like a variation on Rohan Dalvi's point transfer animation technique described in this tutorial.

Hi All,
I am switching my internet to a new provider and I may experience some down time. Is there a way to configure Houdini Indie to run without an internet connection?
Thanks

Try selecting all the nodes.
Press CTRL-X to remove them from the network and place them on the clipboard.
Then dive into your existing subnet and press CTRL-V to paste.
Another option might be to select them all and press SHIFT-C to place them in a new subnet.
Then select the other subnet and edit the parameter interface. Select all those control parameters and do something similar by copying those parameters to the clipboard and pasting them into the other subnet's parameter interface.

Dive inside the UniformVolume shader inside of SHOP. You will see how to reference in the density attribute. In this screenshot I routed the density to the bias of a color mix. Basically you can use the color of the connectors to determine what can connect to what.

Enivob, because this setup is using packed primitives, each point represents one primitive, so @ptnum and @primnum match.@Matt: Ah, but is that good practice to obfuscate nodes? Would the code still work running over primitives instead of points?

That is weird but you are passing incorrect values to the functions. The help file mentions that the primintrinsic is used for operating upon primitives yet you are passing a point index. You are doing the same on the set. My guess is your are not changing what you intend to change because of index skew.

I also just noticed that previous image attachments did not migrate to the new forum. Is this a still a WIP or are we cleaning the slate and starting over?

It is not part of the Alembic scene node , but that is just a subnet. Inside, each geo object will have the Geometry tab I mentioned.

Testing RAM might not prove your system is stable only testing under load, which Prime95 does, really determines if your system is stable, You mention an FX8350. Are you over clocking it?
Are you monitoring the heat of your CPU under load? When chips get too hot they fail and the system will crash or blue screen.
HWMonitor [cpuid.com], a free program, will allow you to monitor your CPU heat under load.

Start off by creating a spotlight then assign a gobo texture to the Projection Map field. The light type will default to Point. Go ahead and dial in your spotlight cone options. To obtain soft shadows change the light type to Grid, this make the light an Area Light. Lower the Area Size to soften the shadows to match the shadow edge in the gobo texture.
Here is an example of the above technique.

Take a look under the Geometry TAB of the geo object. There is a combo/dropdown where you can turn off Render As Points.

Sounds like a reasonable approach. You may want to look into Instancing vs Copying for final deployment.
There is a nice example file here that demonstrates the speed benefit.
