Houdini 22.0 Nodes VOP nodes

Karma Distance VOP node

Computes normalized distance to nearby surfaces by tracing sample rays.

On this page
Since 22.0

This operator traces sample rays around the shading normal and returns either the minimum or average hit distance, normalized by the maximum distance, together with the corresponding direction.

Inputs

Mode

Chooses whether to return the minimum or average hit distance.

nN

Normalized input normal.

Samples

Number of directions to trace.

Cone Angle

Restricts traced directions to a cone around the normal.

Max Distance

Maximum trace distance, in Houdini units. The output distance is normalized by this value.

Trace Set

Name of a trace set to trace against.

Front Facing Normal

Face-forwards the input normal before tracing.

Outputs

Distance

Normalized distance result. A value of 1 means no hit was found within the maximum distance.

Direction

Direction associated with the selected distance result.
